Ok guys, I know this has likely been asked a million times, but I'm new here.

Just bought 93 W250 Club Cab, automatic, installed 4 new tires cuz the ones on the front were whipped. I was hoping that was most of the problem. Not !

I'm gonna tear the rear driveshaft and hanger bearing out today... truck works well but the vibration all through the truck at 40-55 is awful. It's not even close to perfect at 60, but not near as bad. Feels like a u-joint to me, we'll see.

Are these rigs known for other things that will be gone for sure ?

Truck has 195,000km, (115,000 miles approx) and has been used very lightly, older fella hauled lawnmowers etc, seems pretty tight.

I've been running an 86 Chev 1/2 ton 2wd with a 6. 2 for years, is a great truck (ride) and has been a ton of fun, always wanted an old Cummins, just anxious to get it right so I can enjoy it.

Thanks for all your help... love these sites... The Diesel Page was amazing in learning the in's and out's of the old Chev diesel.

Welcome to the TDR.

Look and see if your 250 has 6" spacer blocks between the rear axle and the springs. If it does there is a Dodge TSB out covering drive line vibration. All it has you do is install a 1/2" thick spacer plate between the the carrier bearing mount and the frame.

But most of the time that fix was for low speed vibrations. Most likely yours is U-joints or carrier bearing. Hopefully.

Check your wheel bearings too. I had a vibration I chased for 4mo, and it turned out to be shot bearings. But on a positive note, everything else in the driveline/ suspension is up to par.

Vibration

Something you can check yourself is driveline bent. Jack both rear wheels off the ground if Posie and run it in gear while watching the driveline. If out enough to vibrate you can see it wobble easy. R C

Back in 03 when I first joined this group I ask:

Problems past 100K miles

If you will search this forum with that phrase and my handle, you will get an idea of the things that others have done as the miles roll up.

James

Do you know how to do the search?

got it !!!! Problem solved

Pulled the driveshaft, hanger bearing and int. shaft. Wacked in 3 new u-joints (all were reasonably tight, but upon inspection all the trunions were full of chatter marks from the rollers) and a new hanger bearing assembly. Splines were great, cost me $100. 00 and an evening and the old Goat is vibration free... ... ... . yippee !!!

----Just as we thought... . glad I dug in !

thanks for the tips fellas !! Oo.
