Have a very low speed vibration (5-12 mph) when coming to a stop. Feels like you are running over "rumble" strips. Doesn't matter if you are in gear or nuetral. There is a slight shudder on takeoff.

I have 04. 5 6spd 4x4 3500 dually 4. 10 quad w/approximately 33000.

Going to call a dealer for an appointment. Need something to suggest.

Any help would be appreciated. I have very limited access to the internet while I am away from home. Will check back in occasionally or pick it up this weekend.

Mine started doing the same thing last week. I (correctly) diagnosed the problem as a bad u-joint. The front axle u-joints as well as the rears were changed under warranty.

Good description BTW.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks, Dave. You've confirmed what I thought about the u-joints. When I was at AAM one of the driveshaft engineers got me a set and said I'd be needing them. We'll let warranty take care of this set and keep those in reserve. My 97 never had any u-joint problems. Matter of fact, only problem I had was brake pulling and that was fixed by shimming. On a side note, while at AAM I also got extra rear driveshaft and front cardin joint and shaft.

Mine has had 3 sets of factory joints in 71,000 miles, including the original set. Due to be changed again and the warranty is up, going after market for sure. That was a good description, I likened it to coming to a stop on some super aggressive mug tires. The stiff joint wallers the shaft in the carrier.

I'm thinking that the lack of a CAD (center axle disconnect) causes the front u-joints to wear out earlier than prior models despite the fact that they have no load on them in 2wd.

Dave

According to AAM, DCX decision to do away with disconnect causes the u-joints and double cardin failures. If I was smart, and nobody has accused me of that, I would disconnect the driveshaft in early spring and reconnect first of November.
