I just replaced mine also and, like you, found terminals that were very tight. I had to completely remove the clamping bolt and spread the ends of the clamp apart. Even doing that, the clamp was still tight. It was mostly the ends of the clamp that bent; not the circular part of the clamp. It was a b**** to remove them.
