Anyone else have bad wind noise from their drivers door? It is like I am driving with the door not shut tightly. It only occurs when I have a head or side wind going from right to left. I know I have a problem because the passenger door doesn't do it at all. I don't think my door has enough of a bow in it or not near enough weather stripping because I can shove my pinky finger in as far as it will go on the drivers side but can't even begin to get it in anywhere on the passenger side. I also get bursts of the noise when I hit little bumps on the highway so I know the door isn't at all tight enough. It is just like driving along with it in the first latch and not closed tightly.

This really sucks. I was hoping to never have to go the the dealer, but I suppose I will have to now.

Anyone else have this problem or am I the only lucky one. :eek: :{

The door alignment probably needs ajusted. Are the bolts that hold the hinges in place tight? The holes should be slotted so the door can be adjusted so it will fit tight.

jman, My drivers door is exactly the same as yours, you can actually gently press on the upper part of the window and cause the leak. I showed it to my dealer even before I noticed the wind noise. We looked around his lot and found that about half the trucks he had, you could fit a finger in-between the top of the drivers door and the cab(passenger side looked good). He told me if I had any issues with it, to bring it in. I agree with you, it looks to not have enough bow, it dosen't look like an alignment problem. I've been waiting to take it in to see if anything else would come up.

jman and WildWilly,

I too have the same problem as the both of you. I noticed it a while back and haven't had time to bring it in. Although I'm sorry to hear about the problem, I feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one experiencing this annoying problem. I was on a long road trip last week and it was driving me crazy! I feel like I'm in my old 72 Blazer!

I'm going to stop by the dealer this week and see what they say. I'll keep you posted. -Ken

Had this on a new Astro van in 93. Went to the dealer 3 times. Do not suffer fools gladly. In front of the body shop manager I rolled the window down, put my knee against the arm rest and jerked the window frame toward me holding at the corner. It bent in a bit. Rolled up the window and left. Never had noise again. Sigh. Dealers... . sigh..... geusterman

I just got back from South Dakota and I too noticed the noise coming from the drivers side window, which I assume is similar to the noise you all are hearing too. I experimented and found if I barely tapped the down button on the window, the noise stopped. If I left the window go closed completely tight, there was the noise. I only noticed it at elevated highway speeds. By the way, I was getting around 18. 5 mpg at 65 MPH. On the roads out west where I kicked her up to 80 mph 2600RPM), it dropped to 14 hauling nothing but the wife and luggage. And no guys... she's not THAT big. :) I still love my truck. It was a dream to drive.

Check your hinges

I had the same thing with mine. I wondered what was causing it, but it wasn't bad enough to deal with it. After the guy hit my bumper, I noticed the fender and door were not in the same plane. (bottom of leading edge of door was out compared to the fender) They were out bad enough that they almost touched when you closed the door.

As it turned out, all the nuts holding the lower hinge were barely on. I got them snug and played with the alignment of the door. Then cranked em down. No more noise. I checked all of them but the front lower was the only one missed.

I have the same problem as mentioned above... ... ... ... I too can fit my finger between the door and the rubber seal and it is only on the drivers door.

I have not taken it to the dealer as I have found out in the past it could be worse after they look at it then it was before.

I just traded a 02 1500 Ram and it did not do it at all and I posted a similar question on a different site and they said it was from the tow mirrors... ... ... ..... that is was wind buffeting around the mirrors but I don't hear it from the passenger side of vehicle and neither do the people that are with me.

So I am not sure what to do... ... ... ... take it to the dealer or just deal with it

I've got the same problem. You can stick your finger in the gap at the top of the window frame while driving in a cross wind and feel the door flex. I'm nervous about taking the truck to my closest dealer (40 miles away). I may wait until I take it back to where I purchased the truck (110 miles one way) as I have more confidence in that dealership.

At least the doors on the Dodge have some adjustment. When I had the same problem on my 2001 GMC (with welded hinges), they did the old "knee in the center, hands on the top of the frame" bend. It kind of worked but it looks like there is a danger of breaking the window frame doing this.

It's interesting that it's just the driver's door that is doing this. All of them installed by the same person? Or are the left doors a bit different shape than the right doors? I guess I can always try to fix it.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem, I guess. I didn't realize the doors were adjustable. I may look things over and try to fix it myself if it looks simple. I am like a few others here, the dealer that is close to me SUCKS! So, I might have to wait until I can take it to the dealer where I bought it. If anyone has the definite answer I would sure like to know so I can avoid the dealer.

TIA

Boonieman I think I have the same problem as you, but I think it is different than what these guys are talking about. Because my door is nice and tight and the noise is more like a vibration in the window. I talked to the dealer about it tonight alittle and I think I will make an appointment to take it in tomorrow when I go pick up my billet grill insert and sat. radio stuff. I will keep you posted on what they do to fix the noise.

i got the whistle from the passengers side only when going 60 and above. got so ticked off i took off my attena, folded in the mirors, tapped all the joint tighned door hinges. guess what i still have the 1960's whistle... ... ... . #@$%! dodge is all i can say.

i still love this truck b/c of my oil leaking cummins!

I had this exact problem... The door adjustment was aok. The problem was found to be in the door handle. The dealer removed and sealed it, problem solved...

You have the same noise as me. I think mine is the mirror vibrating on the glass. If you press on the glass near the mirror, or lower the window slightly it goes away. It only happens at high speed in the proper wind conditions. Haven't played around with it yet. I was thinking of rolling the window down and putting a piece of electrical tape on the mirror surface that faces the window. If that is it, a simple adjustment should do it.

Also if anyone is going to adjust the doors, look at the service manual as there is a detailed procedure.

Yeah that sounds like the same noise as mine. Had it since the day I drove it off the lot. I never checked down by the mirror though as the sound seemed to come from around the top of the window. I think you are right though it very well could be the mirror because when I mess with the top of the window it doesn't change anything. I have the towing mirrors, do you? Next time it does it I will mess with it down by the mirror to see if I can get it to quit.

Leaky door seal

My '03 2500 quad cab 4x4 had a leaky door seal on the drivers side too. Whistled when the wind blew just right. After listening to that for 1200 miles on a weekend trip, and finding out on the way back that

when going about 75-80, rain would get blown in to where it would drip down on the floor, I was not happy.

I only had about 4K miles on the truck when this happend

Went to my local dealer monday morning after getting home, told them about it, made an apointment for the next day, and asked them to tighten all the doors.

When I picked it up, it was fixed! No charge.

They even washed the truck for me. The door sounds tighter when I shut it. . more of a thump, than a squish!

I checked the door seal, and it is being compressed to about 1/2 of what it was before I took it in.

So far so good. :)

sag2,

Yeah it has to be the mirror. Accually since I pushed on the glass the other day and I have yet to have the noise return. I guess I must have pushed hard enough or something. The vibration noise should have been there today during a strong crosswind but it never showed up.
