Thanks, TDR Staff

anybody need a nv4500

Need governor help with 4BT / VE pump to get higher RPMS...

I am getting closer to putting the new 4BT into the new FJ55 since I sold that last one. This time I am planning on an AC system so I am curious as to what setup you ran Drivers Wanted. . I saw from your pics that you are still using the OEM 4BT Delco alternator (which I like, also because I have a 140 amp lying around. . ). What did you do to get this setup, a mix of Dodge and 4BT parts?

I am also loving the setup that steve graham did and am leaning that way too. I only hope that I can make mine as clean as his of course! I am thinking I will reuse the 4BT liquid filled motor mounts too though, something which I may have to fab up because I am using a zero degree tilt Dodge adapter on the back. I think, at leat, that I prefer this setup over a 6BT motor mount setup. . ?

Here is the link to Steve's awesome setup...

Driver's Wanted's setup:

I like the alternator/vacuum pump/compressor setup... very slick.

Is that a Ford or Dodge-spec (3rd Gens use a belt driven vacuum pump... ) vacuum pump?

I have to hunt one of those down at some point so I can have power brakes in my Jeep ZJ project.

Thanks,

Matt

I was wondering what that middle piece was. Vaccuum pump. . Cool :) Again DriverWanted if you don't mind spilling beans on where its from, etc. Thanks :) I would also love to see photos of the coolant routing, etc, as well if possible :) !

Sorry for not keeping an eye on the conversion posts recently. Too much yard work. Yes I copied Steve's work. The only difference is that I added a tab up from Steve's upper right bolt post and then welded a 5/16" place off that to pick up three holes on the Ford vacuum pump. Right now the pump only supplies temperaute controls vacuum. I have since converted to Hydro-boost brakes which work great. My A/C compressor is the same as Steve's; I believe Sanden (sp?). They make several 8 grove units that work well with our setup. I'll see if i can find my welded up bracket pic and post it. Have to go to work now and pay some bills. Later.

Just added a couple photos to my gallery under "4BT engine mount disturbances". These show the additional tab required for the Ford Vacuum pump mounting plate. Sorry, I don't have a better photo of the mounting plate for the Vacuum pump.

Dieselcruiserhead, Holshot,

You can probably see, I rotated the alternator down from the original position. I did this to get more belt contact around the Ford vacuum pump. I found the Ford vacuum pump on eBay as well as the Sanden A/C. I had to go to the Ford Dealer for the drive pulley on the vacuum pump. The mount for the vacuum pump was not an exact science in the way I did it but with a spacing washer here and there I have not belt dance up front. Even have the painted on belt numbers still visible on the back side of the belt after about 9,000 miles. I am supporting the outside edge of the alternator with a flat bar that has several tensioning adjustment holes for rotating the alternator up or down. The base of the bar is anchored to the passenger side of the vacuum pump mount. I went with a recent year Ford Excursion 8 grove serpentine belt. I also added a vacuum reservoir I got from a speed shop. A vacuum alarm switch may be a good idea too. Someone told me the Ford Vacuum pumps go out periodically. I know my truck didn't stop worth a darn if the vacuum line was on on.

Check my reader's rig gallery and in the "engine disturbances" folder for the A/C mount. I have the photos there. I don't remember what I posted at the 4bt Yahoo groups site. I can try and take another photo of the Ford vacuum mount if anyone needs it.
