My oil dont turn to chocolate milk its been 6 years and the gears are what ever Randys Ring &Pinion sell . I also use the friction additive but i do use 140 in it or useally a combo as at times theres 90weight in the oil pump so its a mix . Never had no issues .

Do you have the stock breather hoses on the truck ? Are they clear ? My guess its got wet some how or the vent is clogged Do you silicone your axels if you take them off for brake service ?????

It is entirely possible somebody was prone to dropping the clutch and causing that failure. As for the fluid, it almost sounds like Lucas gear oil or an additive. Normally the gear oil does not turn colors like that without contamination, like spending time fording a lot of streams or standing water.

Pulling moisture from the air when cooling? In the Snake River valley? Somebody is dreaming and really digging for an explanation. :-laf It doesn't happen like that. NEVER had that problem when I lived there. It really sounds like the gear oil is the issue.

Yes, Yukon gears are, for the most part, junk. :D

The axle had 0 oil leaks, so I don't think water could get in and it has the factory breather hose going up to the frame and pointing back down. This truck had 80w-90 gear oil in it and it lives between Bellevue and Stanley where there is usually a large temperature fluctuation from day to night and is never parked in a garage. On my truck I run Amsoil 75w-140 with the factory breather and it also seems to get a lot of water in the oil. I have pulled the plug on the Hytec cover and seen water come out before oil. I don't know how else to explain it other than moisture in the air entering every time it cools down.

Ok, I got it back on the road. Had to put in a new carrier, ring and pinion, which was a used Dana set, and new bearings. Spent the time and got a good gear contact pattern and the truck is as quiet and smooth overall as any 1st gen I've been in, and it should be, with everything behind the crank except the clutch being new now. Thank you guys for the help.
