I’ve got a (4wd) Drivetrain possible issue I was wondering if I could bring up to the Cummins Diesel pros. Since I have had my truck I’ve used my 4wd about 7-10 times roughly and maybe Low-Range 3-4 times. Today I had noticed while I went to show a buddy how good my truck pulled a mild dirt hill, well when I selected the low-Range then put my auto in drive things went smooth. When I select reverse, there is a prevalent thunk following a slight shudder. I repeated this a few times to just see if it was a fluke, well it thunked & shuddered everytime I went in to reverse in low-range 4wd? Does anyone think it’s normal or do I have an issue brewing? I have about 33K on the truck; it gets driven like a truck.

Anyhow thanks in advance for any advise. Oo.

Tried my 4-Low again this morning, same thunk following a shudder. Thought I would bump this for another shot at a response.

Thanks again

did you have the wheels cut? I may have experienced similar behavior with mine once, but I was on gravel so I wasn't sure... I'll try it tomorrow.

Thanks for the response, no had my wheels straight ahead. Not moving of course, no load on the truck. I asked the head tech at work about it, he hasn't had time to look into it but by my description he says good be normal "they are all kind of clunky or rough to select into 4WD Low-Range" as he put it. He also said if it was anything, could be u-joint could be bushings or mounts? I sure hope it is nothing.

Try putting it in neutral before going to reverse from D. On my 47re, I have to go to neutral before shifting into park from reverse or there is a big grind.

I didn't have any clunks today. I went forward, backward, no noise. I did have to shift to neutral though, it wouldn't go unless I did.
