Not open for further replies.
The data was recorded at the end of a 90 mile highway run at 70 MPH. The air temp was 66* F all temps are *F.

Engine Oil 205*

Engine Coolant 200*

Trans (6 speed) 190*

Transfer Case 140*

Front Diff 180*

Rear Diff 185*

Highest EGT 1100*

Highest Boost 27 PSI

This is the calculated mpg for 10 tanks of fuel, I was towing 8k for only 100 miles on tank 6.

1. 9. 28 First tank from dealer may not have been full

2. 15. 19

3. 14. 87

4. 14. 55

5. 15. 11

6. 12. 18 Towing 55 to 60 mph

7. 14. 12

8. 14. 24

9. 13. 04 all miles on highway at 70mph

10. 13. 60 all miles on highway at 70mph

Ten tank average 12. 38

Have not yet pulled a full load (22 to 23k GCW) and am interested to see what the temps do in hot weather under that type of load.

Truck does pull slightly to the right at times, but goes straight at others.

So far I am pleased with this Truck would like better mileage, but I can live with what I am getting.

Went looking for info on the 6spd temps & found this.

Reason is, dont have my temp probes mounted in the units yet (rear & trans), butt have the trans one taped into the flange hole on the driverside tail piece. Was reading close to 200* while towing the 7-8k tt over the last 3 days. Outside temp was in the high 90's pushing 100.

Wondering if when I mount the probe in the side cover, how much this may reduce the temps I was seeing. Seems that 200* on the tail piece is a little high. Especially since it is on the outside of the case. This is still factory fill and level is about 1/4' below fill hole. This makes me wonder if having the probe in the oil is really giving a gud reading. I would think we need to have this case temp checked by a point & shoot reading after a short, med, long tow. Plus a no tow reading after about 50-100miles of straight driving.

Not too sure if we read 190* in the oil but the case is reading 200+* at the rear that we are not going to experience a problem later.

Just wondering about it and going HMMMMMMMM...

Ben I would think that when you get the probe in the oil it will read around 210* F under the same conditions. I had 15k in tow on Saturday it was near 90* and I had a trans temp of 210*. That seems to be about the highest it gets. Dave

Tks for the info. Just got the rear cover on (Mag-Hy-Tec) and trans is next, along with the short shifter.

The trans temp seemed a little high so will be watching it. 210 aint too bad and with the Amsoil in, maybe will be lower. Maybe 1/2 of a fast cooler will be called for on the next change... hmmmm. Will only be able to do 1/2 of one as I'll be using the filter on the pass side. I wonder if anyone with the coolers and using the lexan covers is seeing any "distortion" from the heat?

I've had my lexan cover on for about 15K now, have run a few days of 105*-109*, and no distortion. Had it on a lift last monday and could see the fluid line real clear. I've got both coolers on, and the lexan on one side, the inside.

Don't expect to get a bunch better on the milage then you are. We have about the same trucks so we should be close, except I have an Edge EZ, exhaust and air box. The EZ helped out the milage.

With the EZ and empty normal daily driving around 60 mph best I have gotten is 16. 5.

Pulling a 40' goose neck at around 25,000# GCVW at 70-75 mph I got 9. 5 mpg. 2 cars on trailer, low height.

Pulling same trailer at 30,000# GCVW same 70-75 mph I got 7. 5 mpg. 2 lifted trucks on trailer, more wind drag.

On a side note before doing any mods to the truck I pulled a 26' gooseneck at 19,000 GCVW at 80 mph and only got 7. 5 mpg with that. The performance mods really help out.

Oh yea the truck has 20,000 miles on it now.

Isn't that alot of boost for a stock engine?

Is that What '03's have for boost stock?

That's alot of pressure for an HY-35.

But for a stock motor?

most '98. 5-'02 trucks see between 16 and 20PSI STOCK. Do the ISB-e's have a higher boost from the factory??

38PSI? Have you tried to back it down to 36? Supposedly, the air is cooler, and your truck will make more power at 36PSI, compared to 38PSI.

Care to experiment?

Mopar_mudder,

What do you think about Dave's motor pushing 27PSI STOCK?

I had not heard of '03's running that high of boost from factory.

What are your EGT's...

@ 38PSI?

@ 34PSI?

Thanks,

When I first installed the boost gauge it would only get up to 22 to 23 PSI, in looking for a leak in the system I put a regulator with a calabrated pressure gauge on the hose at the manifold and set it to 20 PSI. I found the leak and fix it them I noticed that the Westach boost gauge was only reading 16 PSI, I set the regulator to 40 PSI and had a reading of 36 PSI a consistent 4 PSI difference. I wonder how many other boost gauges are off a few PSI?

I have pushed the truck a little harder as I have more miles on it and seen boost at 28 to 29 PSI. It is stock I do not see any reason to bomb it as it pull just fine in stock form. The numbers are adjusted for the error in the guage.

Dave

P. S. the regulator and pressure guage I used were tested at +/- . 5 PSI.
