hi guys,

i'd like to flush my cooling system right here at home over the weekend, i was just wondering what procedure was right.

i don't want to just sitcking my garden hose in my radiator without a plan...

Thanks!!!!!!!

If you've kept your antifreeze/additives in good shape, a garden hose flush should be OK. Otherwise get some flush chemical and follow the directions. Either way, drain the tap water good when you're done and refill with distilled water and the new antifreeze. I like to unhook the heater core hoses and blow the water out of it too. I wreck the o-ring on the radiator drain almost every time I use it. Be prepared to get a new o-ring or just siphon the radiator and don't use the drain. Craig

I hope you're going to drain it first and take the old Ethlyne Glycol someplace to dispose of it safely. Cause E. G. is poisonous as heck. Propolyne Glycol is not poisonous, but for some reason most guys won't use it. I do, even though P. G. has a tiny bit less heat transfer ability as compared to E. G.

Robert,

Propylene glycol is not recommended for the Cummins. I don't know why, but the manuals say to use ethylene glycol. I suspect that's the reason most drivers use it.

Flush

I flushed mine in the driveway. All I did was go and buy a flush kit from autozone ($5) and hooked the garden hose up to my heater hose going into the heater core. Turn on the hose, take off the radiator cap, start truck, turn heater on high, wait til clear water comes out of radiator hole. Simple. Also don;t forget to take off your overflow and get the old stuff out of it. It just slides up. as for coolant, i used trhe HG clear stuff from autozone. works great.
