Our driveways open to the alley - these creeps jumped the fence, smashed the driver's window and the back seat passenger window and took my stuff.

Question: Am I better off taking the truck to the dealership to have the glass replaced, or are the local 'auto glass' services up to the task?

OBTW, the police said they smash the glass and crawl in the window, or just grab what they can by reaching inside because the factory alarms don't go off unless you open the door, hmmm.

I might have heard them smash the glass if it weren't for my two crated Boxers snoring to high heaven all night... atta boy... sic 'em.

:( Been here before on a trip 2 years ago. Question  Do you have a garage  If not, some motion detectors hooked to a set of full coverage water sprinklers and well aimed spot lights might work very well for you. I know this works very nice around the house for the ground level windows. Nobody likes getting wet :D and you can always get a computer camera to record the little SOB's. Other than that your other choices would be team members, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson with Coach Glock.

Any good glass shop should be able to take care of you. I hate seeing this kind of stuff, as it just makes me want to kill em,

Good luck.

I had my windshield broken on my truck with only a few thousand miles on it. I did alot of investigating into glass. Most aftermarket glass is made in Mexico and is total junk. Just request factory glass. You can use the mobile guys and the glass may cost 20. 00 more than the junk.

They don't push it because it is so competitive that they don't want to lose the biz. Look for the "bug" stamp with the factory insignia before they install it. Good luck.

Bummer. Either the dealer or any glass company will do the job. You could even buy the glass and do it yourself. Not too hard.

I grew up in the city and have vehicles broken into many times. You might think about an alarm system if you can't get protected parking. They might break the glass again, but it will set off the alarm. Probably cost about as much as your deductible.

And it's very common for thieves to come back in about a week, right after you've gotten everything replaced, and before you get an alarm... so heads up.

I installed a camera system outside my house after my cd's were taken out of my TJ wrangler. The system is on both sides of the house and show's the entire front yard and driveway. I also installed a motion detection light so when ever anyone is in front of my house the light turns on. The system comes with software so you can install the cameras into your computer which means you have to leave your hard drive on 24-7 but this way you can access the cameras from any computer due to the internet. I opted for the stand alone hard drive (DVR) unit and I selected the unit that handles up to 4 cameras I then installed it into my tv so I can watch the cameras on the picture in picture if needed. the camera is activated by motion. and is a color unit that can see in very dim light. The cameras are sony chip set and are installed in a camera box with wall mounts. The cost was $1500. 00 but no problems since install.

Problem is not much happens to thieves anymore if they are caught. As my old grannie used to say "not many repeat offenders in the graveyard"

Is it me or are the punks just getting more and more brazen? I was meeting some of my motorcycle club buddies in a T. G. I. Fridays a couple of months ago and two yay-hoos bust in the front door, crack off a round from a sawed-off shotgun about 10 feet from my son's ear, rob the bar till and split. And now, they violate my truck and take my stuff... this sh-t is ******* me off. Has it always been this crazy and its just now my turn in the hell-hole?

I think Mundgyver is right on the money - its time to sign up for a carry permit.

I like the piece of mind that the concealed permit give me. Especially on trips. My Glock has a laser site which makes for a very quick target alignment. Not looking for problems, but if one wanders in my house or tries to carjack me, they will have a very large problem. As an old Marine I was always taught to attack and overcome no matter what. ;)

Make sure to keep in mind that even with a concealed carry pistol permit your piece must remain in the holster unless you feel your life is in immediate danger, in most cases. Simply drawing the weapon if someone is stealing your stuff, etc could in most places be considered "brandishing" and against the law (check local laws of course)...

About the laser site, IMO those are a bad idea, because when Murphy and his law kick in, something will not want to work right with it, and by the time you realize it, it'll be too late to use the iron sights to do what they're there for. Train until you're as fast with the sights as you are with the technology junk and then train to keep you there... Then ditch the laser.

The above is of course simply my opinion, as is my choice of a 1911 "clone" for a pistol, although I can't carry yet as I've yet to take the permit course but it's in my list of New Year's resolutions...

The bottom line is about the only legal solution you can take here is to park in a more secure area, and/or install a better alarm and a system to caputre photographs of the perpetrators, otherwise you'll be sued by them, their family, the city/state/county/whoever else might want some action, or any combination of the above...

We definitely need stiffer penalties for violating other peoples' property. They used to hang horse thieves, I say let's hang car thieves. As to the vandalism/petty thief problem, I'd bet there's a more efficient way to help clear that up too, with some stiffer penalties. Unfortunately we just have to try and find a way to get the politically correct crowd to improve the situation, since they still seem to run things...

I am disappointed that the alarm only goes off when the door handles are tampered with however, that doesn't seem to be an ideal solution, I'd have hoped for better...

You might think about this part from mopar:

P# 82208985 Complete kit includes panic feature, interior theft sensor, Sentry Key immobilizer, and electronically coded ignition keys, no wiring needed (trucks without remote keyless entry system must order PN 82207153)

Maybe that would at least trigger the alarm. .

PS - glad to see your trucks at least still in your driveway though and not gone

Sorry about what happened to your Ram, the best thing is to get the original glasses from the dealer( the oem manufacturer is PPG) and have a good glass place install them. Make sure they're installed right so you don't get any wind noises and what ever you do avoid the cheap chinesse aftermarket ones. your insurance should cover it,mines did when my back glass was broken.

I can only echo the others on your damage.

As for the glass if was not tinted i would go with a factory glass , becareful the dealer doesn't call an outside glass company . I have seen auto glass companies doing window replacements at the dealer ,some times you can see the diffence between factory and after market . Good Luck .

I'm plenty fast with just the pistol. Trained for 21 years with iron sights and also played with some six-gun quick draw for a time. The laser just lets them know that they are in a very bad way by confirmation of the dot on their chest.

Rules of engagment are as follows, if they have a weapon and start to face me with it, they just nullified my good nature. Nothing personal, just tactical. ;)
