Crazy Montana Teenager, gets 50 years

I will be traveling Into Canada for my work in the near future. I will be driving, and transporting a small amount of tools( 2 medium tool boxes?Question #1 do I need a birth certificate to get back into the U. S. or into Canada, and question 2 will I be hassled about my cargo. Ive never travelled into Canada for my job before, and the last time I was there was 10 years ago on a fishing trip. Ive heard the rumors that i would need a detailed list of all my tools?

You should carry a copy of your birth certificate, and an insurance certificate for coverage through canada. It's free from Allstate as long as you call them. I've known people who didn't notify their insurance and didn't have coverage in accidents. Tools are no big deal.

The above and/or a voter registration card or current passport. They will not accept a driver lisence or SSN as a valid ID. Prior to 9/11, my mom said they used to when she had been there with her mom, but not now.

Do you work for a company or are you a independent?

You may have to watch out for the rules about earning money in Canada.

Other than that, Birth certificate or Passport are the a must if you mention working.

Another thing, when you stop to talk to the boarder guard TURN OFF YOUR TRUCK. It will be much easier for both parties to understand the questions and answers without the rumble of the Cummins.

we weren't hassled at all coming or going. but this was prior to 9/11. Main thing they wanted to know is if we bought anything and had any food we were bringing across. I got a kick outta the first question they asked when we pulled up, they wanted to know how many cases of beer we had.

Do forget to pick up a few Cuban cigars while your up there, even if ya don't smoke ya might find a few people you would take them off your hands.

Tbone is right on. If youmention "business" be prepared to get drilled.

Birth Certificate works perfect, I just crossed the border last week

Heres the real story. Do bring a bith certificate or passport, nothing else will sufice. Do not try and go to Canada to work unless Canada Customs says its OK. Do not bring Cuban cigars back its illegal and if caught you will have a great new federal record! P. S. Dont try to take any guns or ammo in or out of Canada without the proper papers. No handguns peroiod into Canada, unless you like being in jail with large native americans in Canada. I can answer varios ?'s about cross border travel.
