Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Engine Damage? What to Check?

My 96 Dodge truck uses a Hella relay to turn off the fog lights when the high beams come on. I would like to convert the fog lights to driving lights and I am wondering if I can find a relay that is the same except that is normally open instead of normally closed. So when the high beams are on the fog light circuit will be on.

The relay is small I believe it is called a micro. The numbers on the relay are:

HELLA

5275 A1

4RD 931 524 - 02

Can anyone advise me on this one?

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,I'm not sure on that exact relay but if you can see the bottom of it(where the wires connect),there should be 5 terminals on it,2 are for the coil wires, + and -, the other 3 are the contacs. If there are wires on 2 and one empty-the empty one will do what you want. On generic relays of this kind the markings are 85 and 86 for the coils, and 30 for the heal,87 and 87a for the contacs( I don't remember which is normaly closed-the other is normaly open). If you can tell which wire goes to the lights and there is an open terminal try putting the wire to the lights on it and it should act the oppisate as before. You may want to put a seperate switch on this relay(or start from scratch) in case you want to run you're driving lights without the headlights on. Have I got you completly confused yet? I'ts easier than it sounds. Jim

Thanks, I followed you.

The relay is a micro mounted in the power dist center. There are two large contacts and three small ones. Probably the easiest way is to change the signal from the highbeam to the low beam. That would be one wire to remove and one wire to add. I'll let you know what I decide to do I am shopping lights now.

I don't think you want a NC circuit. the aux lights would be on for high beam only.

I believe the XXX A1 is a manufacturer code.

I have a 4RD931 524-02 in my hand.

Pull the relay. The pin out is on the side. Pins 3 & 4 are NC with 3 & 5 NO, obviously 3 is common. Pins 1 & 2 are the coil. What powers the coil?

Does the fog light switch go through the PCM? I cannot find my service book with schematics.
