Hi to everybody.
Over the weekend I installed on my 2007 Hushpower cat back system. Installation was easy and fit was top notch. I bought this system after reading the article in Diesel power or maybe Diesel World magazine, where they stated is a drone free. But my problem is that between 2000 - 2500 RPM drone is so big it is almost unbearable. I like to have better freeflowing exhaust, but decide not to put one on my 2007, because of the drone problem I had on my 2001, but somehow this article change my mind. Bad move. Is there any other muffler which will help with drone ?
I would go back to stock one, but only way to get OEM muffler out was to cut flanges and can't be use anymore. I find this on the site which sell Aeroturbine. Anybody have any experience with it ?
Aeroturbine Performance Muffler With Exhaust Guide Combo Increases Fuel Mileage and Performance

or just add this to Huspower.
Aeroturbine Performance Muffler Increase Fuel Mileage and Performance

The Aeroturbine doesn't do a lot in terms of noise reduction, I doubt it will make a major difference with your drone issue.

Past remedies were to wrap the downpipe with header wrap, also clamp a length of angle iron 2-3' long to the pipe leading off the downpipe.

I had pretty bad drone issues with a Banks Monster Exhaust in my '03. I ended up adding a MBRP 30" muffler where the cat would go on a newer truck. It killed most of the drone. The Aeroturbine mounted in the same place is also supposed to kill the drone.

Currently I have a Donaldson M090535 51" muffler (5" diameter pipe) plumbed into the stock 4" system. It's supposed to be drone-free as well, but I would argue otherwise when I have 10k hooked up and going up any kind of grade.

In my experience I have found that changing how far your tips stick out from the bed changes the amount of drone on my '03. I pulled the tip off and cut the pipe back 6" and it reduced the drone quite a bit. I haven't wanted to change the stock looking pipe on my current truck, so I'm considering a change to an Aeroturbine 5050XL. I like the deep tone of a 5" muffler, but I don't like it loud.

Good luck!

i had the same problem with hushpower muffler. the drone was so bad i went back to stock. i emailed hushpower and told them their ad for no drone was false advertising. no reply from them. $200 down the drain. they have no customer support.

Yeah, I email them monday, but so far nobody write me back. I will probably go back to stock, but problem is I made damage to the muffler in removal process.

Which bring another Q. any place on web to purchase new OEM muffler ?

I don't want to pay dealer premium for it.

I would like to upgrade to a high performance exhaust system, but sound and drone is a problem. What is the answer or the best answer?

I Have Silent Might it is a straight thought muffler

and has some holes at the end I think it is

as quite if not quieter than stock and

no drone even pulling a 32' trailer I have it

from cat back

I hate it when that happens. I went through a few changes on my 03 due to the drone and when I bought my 05 I have held off making a change cuz I like quiet.

Now that I tow more heavy I will make a change soon. Still wanting quiet with better flow I will go with a Donaldson M100580

If you look at the Attenuation for low sound and it's flow numbers, I challenge anyone to find something better cuz I would want to know about it.

It's 5" in and out so adapters will be needed.

I hear good think about this muffler, but look like they don't sell them anymore.

m:cool:

you took Flowmaster's word that their muffler didn't drone!?

if you want a good muffler, get a 51" Donaldson.

also, the BIGGEST help for cutting interior resonance is sound deadener (Dynamat type)

i got my diesel power mag in the mail today and i noticed that hushpower did'nt advertise this month. they have been untill this month. maybe words getting out on their false claims. i hope so.

i have an 05 with banks cat back big time drone towing. spent like 40 bucks at muffler shop for a section of 4" tubing and 10 bucksat napa for an band style clamp. cut out cat installed new pipe. no drone what so ever sounds good too. a little deeeper tone ouy tip. good luck.

I am surprise you cut the drone by eliminating cat convertor. I was basically hoping cat will help to not have drones.

I would probably end up to put OEM muffler back. Somehow I am surprise what kind of garbage product the exhaust manufactures sell us.

i have an 06 with no kitty and the drone was so bad with a hushpower muffler i went back to stock. so much for false advertising for no drone with a hushpower muffler. $200 down the drain. emailed them last week and still no response. i won't hold my breath for a response!

im happy with the banks exaust with no cat. i did keep my cat just incase i have to smog my truck. the truck is farly quite not much louder than stock @ idle. and pretty quite with foot to floor unless you have windows down driving next to a wall or going thrugh a tunnel. id still like my to be a little deeper of a tone. thinking about going to a 5" turbo back magnaflow. 06 Pete with 8" straights and a jake lovly thing in the morn.
