I have very little drone with my stacks. It does get a little louder pulling a heavy load but over all I have no complaints. The only down side is the wife *****ing at you to shut the window when it's 10 degrees out and your enjoying the sweet music from the stacks :-laf

How bad is it? Bearable?

Well 1st off you have a Quad Cab so it would definately be better than a Standard cab... . been there... done that... . had to have the stacks about 6" above the cab to get rid of the drone. :-laf

Secondly, depends on what type of stacks you want to run. If you want miter cuts (slants) then to help with the drone get the lowest part of the slant even with the top of the cab.

Turnouts would not drone as much miters though, but I would still try and get them just a little bit above the cab to help with drone. If that wouldn't be enough you could still install a small resinator.

Mostly drone never bothered me until I got on the interstate for a few hours at a time, other than that I usually drove around all the time with my window's down! :-laf

Here is a pic of my original 97 with turnouts.

Good, just what I was hoping... thanks guys!

... . still trying to figure out if a pair of miters would look ok on my truck...

'bout the best I can come up with. Scott Burton "Stroke This 24V" he hasn't been on this site in a LONG time though. Photo curtosey of EEP. ;)

I had the drone to beat all drones with my '94...

  • 5" single turn-out stack firmly bolted with super duper custom (cheesy) aluminum bracketry...
  • 3" straight piped exhaust feeding into the center of the stack... but NOT connected
  • No insulation in the regular cab whatsoever... nothing but the seats. :-laf

That is a slick looking truck... does he still have a reader's rigs page?

You should see it go down the track! :-laf

Yeah he does but it only has one decent pic of the truck. I listed his member name above "Stroke This 24V"

Hi Guys I am new to this site and have not been able to find a source for stacks for my 98. 5 2500 4x4 i really don't want the flat plate in the bed any help appreciated Kevin

Napa

I work at NAPA about 5 minutes away from Enterprise Engine. The guy who EEP recommends for all exhaust work on the Dodges comes in to NAPA all the time. He gets everything he needs to do stacks or any other exhaust for that matter at our store. Anybody else who wants to do a larger exhaust usually goes to NAPA to get it. On average, we probably sell stacks and all the piping to 4 or 5 people. It seems like every day there is a new guy who is putting stacks on his truck. We kind of used my truck as a show truck for different exhausts (I've had 5 different exhaust setups on my truck in 10 months, including dual 5" miter cut stacks). It should only take you about 2-3 hours at most to install stacks- start to finish, and shouldn't be any more than about $550. Our store keeps all the piping and a variety of stacks in stock because we turn them over so quickly, but any NAPA store can get them in a few days. Just my . 02.

Are you just mounting to the bed and cutting holes in the bed floor I guess I asked the wrong Question the first time I would like to have turn outs 4" just about level with the top of the cab do you eliminate the cat. I have had stacks on class 8 trucks but not on a pick up could you post pictures top and bottom maybe so I can see what is needed Thanks Kevin 98. 5 24 valve 2500 4x4

Here is a picture of my 1st stack setup I had in my old truck.

On my new truck I'll be using 4x6 box steel with two 1x1 piece's of steel welded to the bottom to drill and use bolts with. Hole will be in the same place.

(of course the dang thing is backwards in the 1st pic, hole will be on the right side of the bed like in picture above)

cumminstogetya, u must not be to far from me. guys, help me out. i have 5" with muffler on it now, and a good drone at 2000 rpm's will the drone go away if straight piped and stacks. going with true 5" pipe and 5" stacks with y. just going to the turn outs because i dont want the soot water everywhere. ( the truck sits outside). i hear trucks that are obnoxiously loud with stacks then i hear trucks that are not as loud with stacks. does it have to do with the diameter of the pipe and stacks?

stacks

I have a single 5" angle cut/miter cut stack. I had a local shop install it as he does most peoples unless they do it themselves (it was only $200). I guess mine is the loudest he has ever done and he has done lots of them. Its pretty loud and I like it that way, however I could see how some may not. As far as drones go I havent noticed any but between the mud terrains/cummins/stack there isnt to much else to hear.

I dont know what to say about the loudness factor. I have a friend with dual turnouts and you cant really hear it but there are others around hear that also have dual turnouts/angle cuts and they are loud. It would be my guess it has to do with the way the plumbing is routed, muffler/cat etc.

Another note: My egt's went down about 100* with the installation of the stack. A unexpected benefit that I had not thought about.

i get a slight drone between 1900-2200 but by letting off the go pedal or pushing it a bit more makes it go away. its bearable with the windows up.

hook up

Hi Guys!

Those stacks look teeeeeeriffic just about to put one on my 96

John
