What size drop hitch would you recommend for the most likely utility trailer towing?

I have a gooseneck ball in the bed and anticipate needing to someday tow a "standard" flatbed utility or U-Haul type trailer in the 5K lb or less range. Unloaded my 05 Ram Dually (Single Wheel Drive) receiver is 18" above the ground, so presumably some size drop hitch and 2" ball is most usually useful. Since they come in many sizes from 2-6", I wonder which one to invest in...

Your real world experience/advice is gratefully appreciated!

The top of the receiver on mine is 20" above the ground. I have an adjustable on mine and the top of the bar where the ball fits is 16 1/2" above the ground so mine is 3 1/2" drop, I pull a utility trailer and my boat with the receiver. I would say 2" to 3" is the average. bg

I think I figured that wrong, on a straight insert the bar where the ball mounts would be about 18" above the ground which would make mine just about 1 1/2" drop. bg
