Just finishing up installing ATS manifold, torqued all but the last two allen bolts. As I moved the T/W past the opening of the turbo the 1" long hex wrench fell out of the socket into the turbo opening and disappeared!:mad: :{

Tried magnet, couldn't find the #*^><&^%. Finally had to remove the turbo and I thought it should just roll out. Wrong!! Tried magnet again and still no luck.

I have turned the turbo every which way and I but can not hear it moving around. Should I be able to hear it?

Need ideas/suggestions as I a SOL.

You sure it went in the turbo?

I mean it sounds like you have removed the turbo and turned it upside down, side ways, etc... . Maybe it hit the turbo and fell to the ground or on the frame?

Just a thought...

good hunting.

Look past your tubo and down the pipe to your intercooler.

I'd be suprised if it made it through your turbo past the compressor wheel, but I suppose its possible.

Sometimes I swear bolts, nuts, washers, and even small tools grow feet and run when they get loose around an engine.

I agree. I'd bet money it didn't drop in the turbo. Check the motor mount, frame rail, top of the axle, etc.

Crabman, simple to check since you have the turbo off, take the 4 bolts out of the center section and slide the housing off and take a look.

Victory!!

After a good nights sleep, will sort of, I tackled the dreaded lost 8mm hex allen wrench in the turbo.

I know for sure that it went into the turbo because of watch it fall (in slow motion) exactly into the middle of one of the openings. But I did check again in all the places that TDR members suggested. I was doing a lot of hoping while I was checking too!

Anyway I shook the living days lights out of the turbo. Not a sound and nothing came out. I tried tapping the housing with a 4 lb. hammer, would have liked to, but instead I just used a very small machinists hammer (4 oz. ). That didn't work either so I tried another magnet with a stiff flexiable handle (have 3 different ones) and that didn't work. I pick up the turbo and turned it upside down and the little #$%&^$# fell out onto the work bench.

I guess that do to the shape, sharp angles its size, it just wedged inself in there somehow.

The reinstallation went smoothly and there where no leaks.

:D

On the lighter side... ... I recall pulling the exhaust and transmission from a new performance engine on a well known members truck.

During the removal of the exhaust the down pipe got turned upright and rattle clank, thud... . out droppped the hot end pinwheel onto the ground... . " I wondered were that went" said the owner, now I know...
