Melloy Dodge in Albuquerque,New Mexico got in a couple of 2010's. Both were 2500 Crewcab 4x4 longbed automatics. Steering and frontend were alot firmer and tighter than most 3rd gens I've driven. Power was good and the truck had good smoothe idle, and even when running down the road it didnt have that little bit of "vibe" that most 3rd gens have. Dont care for the looks much though, I think the 3rd gen body style looks better. Wish they would have gone with the Power Wagon concept truck look instead.

Loked at one the other day and they look about the same if not a little bigger didn't sit in it but looked it over pretty well I know the back has more room but they also put storage boxes on both sides of the floor and the sub is under back seat .

Interior size in the front seemed about the same, rear seat is definetly more than a Quad Cab. Didnt care for the drivers seat couldnt get it adjusted to my liking may have been because it was a manual one and I'm used to my power one? Some other things I didnt like was cruise control is now a seperate lever on the right hand of the steering column, doesnt seem to have an o. d. lock out button on the shifter {so its either o. d. or towhaul mode only?}, interior a little worse than the 3rd gen which is not that great, {the truck was an ST but did have power windows door locks and carpet as part of the package}. What I did like about it was {at least this truck} had a solid firm feel to it, it ran and idled smooth. I just didnt get the wow gotta have one feeling like I did like when the 3rd gens first came out.

I don't know what's so different about having a tow/haul mode switch versus an OD lockout switch. My '05 Durango has the tow/haul and I think I like it better than flat-out turning off the OD. I'm loving the 4th Gens and I need a new truck; just not keen on spending 50k on a truck when I only paid about 32k for my '95 when I bought it new. I know, I know..... much better engine, much better truck, but still. Oo.

There are two switches on the auto trans stalk that allow you to set the top gear that you want it to shift to - so you have an option even better than just an OD lockout. If you haven't already done so read my coverage from the launch press event where we spent a full day driving the new trucks: 2010 Ram HD Launch Press event coverage .

The cab seems a little more upight from the pics w/less windshield rake. Hopefully, that'll make it easier to enter for us tall guys. I've got to dip my head to get into mine. The Auto Show's coming here soon,so I hope Dodge (er Ram)has a good exhibit with the HD's.

I use the tow/haul button when towing and love it. Why do so many still want to lock out the OD? I know the older trucks would have problems but what do the transport haulers or heavy rv haulers think? How many miles using tow/haul? I have 60K on my 2005 and about 1/2 of the miles are towing and I have not had any problems with my transmission yet. My heaviest trailers are 14K.

I believe that the 2010's have the same 68RFE Auto transmissions as all of the 6. 7L trucks, correct? If so then there is a toggle switch on the selector lever for the transmission. This switch will allow you to lock out any gear that you want to stay out of. I use this all the time, 1-4 are the standard gears and 5 and 6 are the over drive gears. Around town (under 45 MPH) I am in 1-4 gear and when I am on the highway I use the over drive gears.

When I tow on flat land I will use 5 or 6 gear in over drive with the tow/haul mode and EB on. But in the mountains I will use only 5 gear with tow/haul mode and EB on. I have found this to be the best application for my needs.

After sitting in and driving a 2010 2500 Cummins 4wd, I am not sure there is not anything in the interior and body that they didn't improve. One thing is the fold out trays in the back seat - that is a great option on my 2005.

Lots of storage, 120VAC plug on dash is nice, quality of materials seems improved, etc. Too bad I can't get a 5. 9 in that truck...

What we(mostly '05 owners)want is BOTH O/D Lockout and Tow/Haul Mode. If you get on a winding road, especially pulling a grade, where you are comfortably pulling it in 3rd, if you pick up a few MPH, or ease up on the throttle, the transmission will grab O/D and lug the engine, sending EGT way up. Then it will force a downshift, then... lather, rinse, and repeat:p It is annoying, and hard on the equipment. As Steve pointed out, the newer trucks have the means to do it.
