Chevys new six..

I have to laugh...durahype

took one for a test drive today, nice overall package the engine sounded and performed a lot like a powerstroke, the transmission is the sweet part though, very smooth precise shifting, wish we had it for out truck. Still like the cummins better, the straight six is my kind of engine.

I agree completely. Met a guy at the pumps with the Duramax and Allison. Nice truck so long as you don't work it. I truly believe straight six engines work harder and last longer than any other configuration. V8's may be more efficient. Maybe, but certainly not when working hard. On a side note, I have a 87 BMW 325is with 207k. That little straight six (and rear wheel drive of course) is quietly out lasting the whole d*mn car!!! Those new Ch*vy's are nice. Good seats. But, I need a truck, not a 1ton rated car... Oh... . that's gotta hurt!...

Andy.
Does anyone reading this know if it's possible to adapt an Allison to the Cummins?
I tow a lot, and am on the 2nd torque converter, am not too happy. I treat this truck with kid gloves, and these failures and leaks should not have happened.

Are you still running a stock TC? Get a good after market TC and your troubles should go away. I got DTT's TC and VB and I think there is alot of other happy DTT customers here too. It would be far less then a new transmission/allison thats for sure.

rgarthwaite:

While I'm sure it would be possible to physically bolt the Allison 1000 to the Cummins, I have doubts about being able to FIT the Allison 1000 under the RAM chassis in such a way that it would mate to the motor, at least not without doing with a 3" or higher body lift. That's the main reason the GM HD trucks have the "different" style (if you can call it that)... to make the Allison fit. Also the same reason you cannot get the Allison with the 8. 1L motor in the Suburban -- it's based on the non-HD truck.

I would love to have a GOOD automatic for my truck too, and as good as the Bill K. /DTT products are, I still firmly believe that the 47RE is a complete POS and isn't worth the effort. _IF_ they can make the 47RE survive in a decently modified truck that tows at or near max GCWR through the mountains regularly, without having to use 3rd gear for hill climbing, then I'd be a believer. Otherwise, I'll pass.
