Duramax in limp mode

Ok, I'm in Norway, and my local Dodge dealer had the new Caliber 2litre CRD in stock. So why not take it for a spin to let you guys know what you have coming :)

First it's the same 2litre that comes in the VW products linked with a 6speed manual box. 140horse with 310NM (will convert to fp later) Hopefully it will be just as easy to turn up as the VW's, 200hp should be easy I think.

What I noticed right away are how quite it was, inside you could hardly hear it was a diesel at all. I seldom drive a car with stick these days, but I liked it right away. No need to shift all the time because the engine is very flexible, I could drop it down to 1000rpm in 6th and it would pull really good without lugging. It comes alive at 13-1400 and then pulls smooth to 4000rpm. Cruising along in 55mph you have only 1400rpm on the ticker, and at 60mph you are at 2000rpm. I was driving on partly slippery and icy roads and could feel the torque through the steeringwheel during hard acceleration. I really enjoyed driving it, of course nothing like our mighty Cummins  But a nice little driving car.

When you see what kind of milage the Jetta and Passat gets, the Caliber should not be far off. I'm not sure if it will be availible in the states with an automatic, but here in Europe it will only come with the 6 speed stick.

I shot a few pics, but not really much to see under the hood, everything are covered under one of those huge stupid plastic covers, what I noticed though is it comes standard with a Optima red top battery. Will post the pics later.

They are also bringing over the new Avenger, and the seller told me they will get a diesel also, mot likely the same 2litre as the Caliber. There was also the new Jeep there with diesel, it's called Commander over here. I didn't have time to look it over, but if somebody are interested I could take it for a spin also. :)

Here is a pic of my nephews crd liberty at the top of one of the tallest dunes at Glamis. It has some pretty good power to get there.

I've been driving diesel jettas for 20 years and love them. The 2006 has the auto (DSG) transmission. Much faster than the old auto and feels more like a stick. The engine in the Caliber you drove has more HP than my jetta. I haven't heard anything about plans to bring the diesel caliber or commander into the states. Wish they would! I forget the name of the new VW that is similar to the caliber. I think we will see it with a diesel in late 2008 at the earliest.

I'm gonna draw heat for saying this, but...

I wish VW would bring back the Eurovan with a diesel.

It's called a Sprinter, sold by Dodge. Well, not quite but pretty close.

LOL, yep. Been watching them for a while, but I still can't convince the wife to drive that Freightliner. They are rather huge, but I'd go for it!

Here's a photo of our "Dodge". My father claims that it drives a lot better with the new grill.

Blast! I can't post it. The Sprinter has the European Mercedes grill. It looks a lot better than the original Dodge.
