Good Morning,

I searched a little but ran out of time this morning. Where is the easiest place to get a replacement for the flange bearing on the DSS?

'Bout any farm store should have it. Try TSC. Just measure the shaft diameter. Was 1", IIRC.

Bearing may or may not come with the pillow block. Will come the the lock collar for sure. Anti seize the crap out of the shaft and set screw(s). Using synthetic grease should help as well.

Thanks for the replies. Since i live here in the Metroples I had a thought and just called PSC who also sells them. He is sending me one for $14. One of the bearing suppliers here wanted around $50.

This is the second truck this one has been on. The bearing itself has probably 90k on it. It's not real bad but I'll be installing Maxx links and new trac bar bushing this weekend. Mine as well do it too.

let us know how the max links go. thinking of that in future. are your stockers toast mine are still really good for 160k on my truck. hope it works out

I give the greese fitting a pump or two every 6 months. Should last forever... .

Check there is no side load or binding.

1. - do the mounting holes line up? If not grind/file a slot in the bracket.

2. check th see that the mounting surfaces a parallel to each other when the bearing is slid on the shaft extension.

Mine gets regular grease. Just wanted to replace. For $14 it was a no brainer while I was under there anyway.

Maxx Links work well. Front end feels more solid when going over the small bumps that make the truck rock side to side. New track bar bushing helped as well. Still have some issues to address. I can still feel something through the steering wheel and the pedals when slowing and taking off. Also feel it on certain bumps. Next project is ball joints. Don't knopw if it will be the fix but it needs them anyway with 75K on the truck.

Looked at the truck again this past weekend. Removed Borgeson Steering Shaft to inspect. Checked ujoints and coupler, all tight. Also checked for slack in the slip joint between the upper and lower shaft. Nothing there either. Put it back together and no more clunk this morning on the way to work. Then I remembered that I had fixed the same clunk a few years back by doing the same thing. I am of the opinion that where the Borgeson attaches to the steering column shaft, over time this connection becomes a little loose. It's not loose enough to reach down and move with your hand but as the differential, body and frame flex during take off or stopping it causes this connection to shift just enough to be felt in the steering wheel and the pedals. BTW, I do have the bushing fix in the steering column as well. My . 02 FWIW.
