Wow!!! Night and day difference on my truck with the DSS installed. Thanks for the help with the install mgoncalves!

If anyone read the thread some time back I was literally at the point I thought about getting an 04 as I couldnt stand to drive my truck anymore due to the wander and play in the steering. I had the alignment done a few weeks back and checked the track bar, it was fine. I was ready to sell the darn truck!

Installed the DSS and I have to say this thing drives better than the day I drove it off the lot!! Very happy customer! Oo.

steering box brace

The brace does infact make the truck drive better, but I have thought that the steering box might life longer also. Not a bad deal for no harder than it was to install . Fit and finish was good to. NO missing parts that some times happens. Jim

Well unfortunately my DSS story is a little different. It took three weeks + to get the unit and I am only 2 provinces away. Now that I have the DSS unit and went to install it. The pittman replacement nut has no threads in it. Needless to say I am not impressed. I phoned and talked to Darin's wife and left a message but no response yet. I know to ERR is human, we will see how long it takes to get the proper part here. If the story went the other way I would have reported that too.

Update>>> I just talked to Marv and they have a new one on the way. WoooHooo:D Oo. I will be one happy camper when i get it installed. Thanxs Doodad

Darin's Steering Stabilizer is a square tubular crossmember that mounts to the frame ahead of the steering box.

It has a bracket with a somewhat spherical bearing mounted to it.

It comes with a pitman shaft extension which passes through the bearing to give extra support to the steering box & frame.

Mine took quite a bit of the slop out of my steering.

Mine's on order. .

Question, will this survive harsh winter salty environment as delivered or should I get it coated with something like LINEX?

I can't say it enough. My truck started to just plain old suck to drive to work in. 6 months ago on we toosed on a DSS and DT track bar. Even with beat ball joints an one bad rod end the truck drives allmost as good as new. THAT SAYS SOMETHING!

My results...

I, too, agree the fit and finish of the product was excellent. I ordered mine from Piers about 5 months ago. At that time, I only had 27,000 miles on the truck. I had recently converted from a Ford F250 and the steering was much worse on the Dodge so I figured it couldn't hurt.

Well, it definitely did NOT hurt, but didn't do much to improve anything either. I suspect it is because I only had 27,000 miles on the truck, but I didn't get any noticeable improvement.

Around 28,000 I had a new tracbar put in under warranty and THAT made a noticeable improvement.

Then, recently I have noticed sloppy steering again so I figured another tracbar. I'm at 35,000 now. So I took it to the dealer. They said everything was in spec including the tracbar. Well, I took the shop foreman for a drive. During the drive I asked about the intermediate steering shaft. He said they did NOT check that.

To make a long story shorter :D, they checked it and found it out of spec and replaced it. What an improvement!! BTW, they also checked the steering stabilizer and it was determined to be OK.

I'm a bit disappointed that in only 35,000 miles, the steering shaft was out of spec and needed replacing. Thank goodness for warranties. But I know the next tracbar and steering shaft will on my nickel around 70,000.

Back to the DSS... I do feel better knowing it is in place and keeping everything from loosening up and it also eliminates that area as a problem when things get loose again in the future. Those two things make it worth the $150 for me.

I am another one that cant say I saw a night and day difference... . mainly because I still have a factory track bar and two bad ball joints. I am sure when those are addressed the steering will dramaticaly improve... ... that said. . I DID see some improvementwith DSS and am happy I purchased it.

Jim

Add me to the list.

My 02's wandering was starting to annoy me also 48K miles. Ordered, three days from Piers... . installed in a little over an hour by myself... . Big difference... Huge I love it.

Great product to help finish what D. C. started.

I guess I will stop fighting it and order the DT Track bar next.

thanks for the socket sizes also!
