I have a '06 Ram 5. 9L 2500 with an AFE air intake, CFM intake manifold and a SuperChips programmer set to performance.

I have just added a Detroit Locker, ProComp MX6 shocks and a new steering stabilizer. I also just upgraded my SuperChips programmer. Since the additions and it feels like the steering is binding on left hand turns and it has twice set a DTC C103D which triggers the ABS and parking brake trouble lights. Any ideas?

Also, I am not very happy with the ProComp MX6 shocks as it it is impossible to adjust the front shocks using the adjustment knobs. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Frank Pollard

Detroit locker? Front? Rear? Both?... If it's in the front, and you don't have locking (unlocking?) hubs, you will definitly get some binding steering feedback.

The Detroit Locker is in the rear (the factory locker 'blew up', I didn't even know that the '06, 4. 10 came with a locker).

I would assume you have checked the operating range of the new steering stabilizer? Both the steering stabilizer and the locker can affect steering, but since you say "binding" (which I assume to mean resistance in the steering wheel when turning it) I would guess the stabilizer.

Tough to tell what your feeling. Have you had a Detroit before? A detroit is a ratchet type locker that only lets a tire go faster than what the driveshaft is turning the diff, never slower. What that means is all the power goes to the slower rotating inside tire during turns. This makes for some interesting handling while getting on or off the gas while turning. Get on the gas in a turn and the truck will want to straighten out. Get off the gas and the truck will tend to turn sharper. Not a big deal to get used to.

If your bind is during sharp turns at slow speeds, like going into a parking space, that probably is just the detroit. Remember the inside tire is doing all the pushing which is fighting the steering.

Just wait until you get a "load pop" which is where the ratchet mechanism is not quite seated when you accelerate hard. Usually this has only happened to me during hard acceleration while turning, like making a left with oncoming traffic. It can be quite unnerving if you are not ready for it. I actually had a guy pull in the parking lot behind me and tell me that he thought my rear axle was broken because he heard the bang saw it jump so much during a load pop.
