41 Generator Field not switching properly
is present on the truck.
Background: Water pump shaft snapped, bearings went out, then the off-center pulley took out the belt, alternator output went to 0, the engine overheated & blew coolant out the radiator cap. Coolant all down the passenger side of the engine, including the alternator.
After replacing the water pump with a new one, we resumed our trip towing the 5er. About 50 miles down the road, the "Check Engine" light came on with no observable reason for it.
Since then, it has come on several times, usually when I'm making 70 or so (not towing). Found Codes 12-41-55, which I make as Start-41(above)-End.
Does anyone have a better explanation than "Generator Field not switching properly" for this Code?
I cleared it this afternoon and will see if it comes back.
