While checking codes for an overheat problem, this one came up.

I just bought the truck back after selling it a year ago (03 4x4, DRW QC) but I'm sure the code has been there since I sold it.

I was using the Smarty on SW3 and it has Banks exhaust, ATS 3 pc manifold, stock air filter, and all gauges.

I don't recall the boost ever getting high but if I give it a lot of throttle and let off I can here "fluttering" air at the turbo. I assume this is the waste gate letting off the excess.

Is this normal or do I need to change something?

Also, how do I clear the code? Can I do it with the key or will the Smarty clear it?

Thanks

you can clear it with smarty, but it was prolly set for a reason... i would keep an eye on it. if the code comes back its time for some diagnostics. i'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in with potential reasons that the code was set in the first place. perhaps the wastegate is sticking, or a wire is chafed somewhere.

Under normal conditions, Smarty fools the computer into thinking boost is within limits. The condition you refer to is called barking. It is caused by high boost pressure in the intercooler, etc. trying to kick the turbo wheel backwards when you let off the pedal and hence drive pressure too quickly.

the smarty will clear it. the 03 has a he341 turbo. a sticky wastegate is probably what caused it. without looking at my smarty book I think the first thing you see is a option to look at data or pod, choose data next I think abs or data next dtc codes or settings check dtc codes and clear. the smarty raises the limit that trips the p0234 code, on the 04. 5 up it is 42 psi, not sure if same on 03. clear code and see if it comes back
