Hi,

Last Sunday I dropped my transmission pan and changed the fluid and filters. Pretty simple, but it was the first time I have done it (it was due, per the manual). No my truck is throwing code P0700, which didn't tell me much, so I took it to a local mechanic and he read the transmission error code and got a code of P0734. The truck gets to 4th gear, then looses all power, goes into 'limp' mode, and revs the engine to about 3,000 RPM to get to at most about 10 mph.

I have a 2007 Ram 2500 that is stock with the 68RFE transmission.

Seeing a few posts on-line that suggested a replaced output sensor resolved the P0734 problem, I ordered two sensors and replaced both the input and output speed sensor. However, my test drive resulted in the same problem. . . . 4th gear triggers a total loss of power.

Any ideas on what i can check or do to perhaps fix the problem?

My next idea is a visit to the transmission shop in town to let an expert take a look at it, but he can't do anything with it until Monday.

I'm also quite perplexed at how my fluid change caused such a big problem. I'm not a mechanic, but usually oil and filter changes and such are not beyond me. . . .

Thanks for any help,

Chris

I always go back to what did we do to break it. Very first thing to do is go back and check the oil filters for proper sealing. The flat sump filter is the real suspect. The filter has to be installed correctly or it will suck air. Drop the pan again, pull the filter and check the O-Ring. The spin on is pretty straight forward, is it tight?

Here is the caution for the filter install.

CAUTION: The primary oil filter seal MUST be fully installed flush against the oil pump body. DO NOT install the seal onto the filter neck and attempt to install the filter and seal as an assembly. Damage to the transmission will result.
