Here I am

DTT or ATS ?

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

WHat the heck is going on!!!!This is a stumper!

Banks Exhaust brake...

Have to bite the big bullet and either DTT or ATS will be in my 1995 before deer season. I have a lead with someone that installs the DTT here in Michigan. I honestly don't care if I have to drive all the way to Denver, I just want the best transmission for the price. Anyone have any thoughts one way or the other??

You've touched upon a hot topic here.

Lets see if the members have grown up enough to limit responses in a constructive manner so as to not have this thread shut down.

Please no posts saying how bad it's going to be, it doesn't have to be that way.

My suggestion is that you contact the vendors yourself and make your own decision, both are excellent products.

I would suggest to call the vendors and ask questions.

Warranty? applications? installers?

Pick the one best for you.

I went ATS and have not looked back.

I am a VERY satisfied customer.

They are all good when compared to stock......

I am beyond satisfied with my DTT setup. The best thing to do is call and determine for yourself.

Just so I don't step on big brothers toes I would say they are all good products, not just the ones you mentioned, look in the TDR magazine and you will find all kinds of auto transmission advertizements. support the ones that support us. The installer is probably the biggest one to worry about.

Beware of company spokes people hype.

Do your homework and decide which you like the most. All of the major transmission builders mentiuoned on the TDR will stand behind their product. I went with the DTT full upgrade. Some may prefer ATS, some Goerend and some BD. It's all about taste and how comfortable you feel with the company. As I mentioned before they all stand behind their product and that's what really matters. Good luck on your decision!

My best possible advice I can give you is get to DTT's forum and start reading it will become very clear to you which choice is right after you spend a couple hours there reading. I went full DTT and will never look back trans is the last thing on my mind anymore now its twins :( Look at the top pulling and top drag trucks whats in them? What are these guys running. Especiall read this thread. http://www.dieseltrans.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=197 all the others are also very good reads and very informative and straight to the point. Bill is probably the most honest guy you will ever speak to and will not cold sell you anything he is straight forward and tells no BS its straight up.

Call all the dealers and see which one you get the best "vibe" from. Then do a search and read several hours worth of posts to get personal interpretations from members. Then try and find someone near you who has a truck with an aftermarket trans which you can drive.

I went with DTT and I wouldnt hesitate doing it again. I've got 22K on it with not one hiccup after drag racing, skidding logs and just everyday hotrodding 400horse from a kid who wants a piece of every Ford in town. :D

One thing is for sure, any way you go it will be worlds better than stock. Oo.

DTT

My first bomb at ~2K on the clock. 73K later, I'm still calling this my favorite bomb. Customer service at its best.

The DTT transmission is the best thing that i did to my truck. My dad liked it so much he had one put in his 12 valve then a buddy of mine had one put in his truck also. All of these transmissions have been flawless & mine gets put through alot of abuse such as sled pulling & my dad pulls a 36ft 5th wheel camper. Go with whatever company you like best & be happy with your choice. Good luck. Kurt.

TFlower, these is a touchy one on this board. Walk on eggshells when you ask that question.

I dont believe there is ever "1 best product" in anything, not just auto trannies. I would encourage you to really figuire out what you plan to use the truck/transmission for (i. e. heavy hauling, racing, etc... . ) talk to each of the manufacturers, do a little interviewing of each of them. then gather as much info on each setup as you can, talk to people who have them not using the forums section here, and then make your judgement based on your needs.

Best wishes to you in your upcoming investment!!

Jeff

DTT & LOVE IT!

BUT ultimately it is YOUR decision as it was for ALL of us.

The suggestion about reading each rebuilders web site is a valuable one. Ask, ask, ask, ask everything you can possibly think of then ask some more. When you write the check, you do not want to look back and wonder.

There will come a point where you are reading and have re read everything you possibly could have and can't find anything new. Then you will decide.

Make sure you are up front with the rebuilder as to what you are going to do to your truck. 400hp is a tad different than 700hp, twin turbos, injectors, boxes, exhaust brake, etc.

GOOD LUCK,

We each went through what you are going through and it was NOT easy.

You will find EXTREAMLY happy people who have one or the other.

There are PLENTLY of high power guys running one of the 3 transmission compines, DTT, SunCoast, and ATS.

I bought a DTT, and had James Northem put it in. I wouldn't let anybody else but Bill do the build, and I could not EVER think about going with another company now. :D

I think you see Jim Fulmer be my echo here! ;) :D

I'm extremely happy with my ATS. I called every vendor i could find, talked to them several times, talked to different installers of the various brands and came away with a couple constants.

... Each vendor makes a good quality product.

... Each vendor stands behind their product.

... Each will perform as advertised.

I went with ATS because they gave me the warm fuzzy feeling i was looking for and IMHO exuded more confidence in their product. Some vendors didn't want me to use a mystery switch. One told me 400 hp was too much for a daily driver. One said i haul too much weight for their high performance transmission. ATS told me no problem and they were right. It's been 18 months 48k miles and not a sign of trouble (other then that damn TPS). I'm leaving in a couple weeks for a 3 week trip out west, camper and all and i'm not the least bit worried.

Call each vendor. Ask the same questions of each of them and note not only the answers but how they answer. Are they confident in their product? Do they believe their product will do what you want? Then wait a couple days/weeks and call them again. Talk to someone different and see what answers you get. Then make your decision and don't look back. You'll end up with what you wanted and you'll smile for miles and miles...

Best wishes!

Brian :)

My vote goes to Bill Kondolay

Until someone can come up here and show where they have designed more and better products to improve the dodge transmission.

Bill is working every day to come up with better parts for our trucks

Opie is another person that is really going the extra mile too.
