Opinions on 16K Reese

Goose Neck Hitch For The 03'

Hey fellas... .

Looking to see what temps others are seeing while towing 6500-7000# on the interstate mostly flat. With my stock trans in lock-up it was between 100-150 degrees. After my full DTT I usually see 150-170 degrees while in lock-up towing. Ambient temps around 80-85 degrees outside.

Seems to me this would be fine due to the tighter TC but wanted others opinions.

TIA,

Clay

Clay, the temps are fine but in lockup it doesn't matter about the converter, the 89,91,and 93 would be the same towing in lockup, it's when your driving around in unlock that it matters.

Klaybus,

You seem to be in the same temp range I run at. In fact, my temp can get up to about 180(maybe hillier driving). DTT just seems to run slighter hotter. Stop and go traffic, it's not uncommon for me to see 180 to 195, even unloaded. Fluid has remained nice and clean.

Temps

Yep... . Me too unloaded. I was hoping with the MagHytec pan I would see lower temps but really haven't. I think next fluid change I'm switching to synthetic, I've heard that can gain you 20-30 degrees in temperature drop. We'll see... .

Thanks,

Clay

Clay;

When I went from a single deep pan to the DD version, I also added the Amsoil. I think I dropped 5-10 degrees empty in lock-up, but the big change has been when the temps rise (stop and go, pulling, racing), they now raise MUCH more slowly. I had to creep along at about 4-5 mph with lots of slowing to stops for about 20 minutes the other day. At the end, I was just touching 210, before the added capacity/Amsoil, I would have been at 200 in just a few minutes and would have been dropping into N every chance I could get. During the 20 minutes, I dropped it into N once towards the end, right before the traffic opened up. Oh, and the outside temps had been in the upper 80s.

DD Pan

I've heard that with the DD you see a significant drop in temps but at the moment I'm hoping that with just the fluid I see a fairly significant temp drop... . DD in the near future. Thanks for the info.

I tow a 10K 5er and see the same temprature range as you do. My transmission hates to drive in a city or in bumper to bumper traffic. I shift to 2nd gear and use my smart box. At stops I shift to neutral to keep the temperature down to 200.

Yep, mine too! I constantly find myself shifting from drive to nuetral to keep the temps down while stuck in traffic. Seattle traffic sucks!

Amsoil works great

Between the Mag Hytech single deep pan and Amsoil fluid, my temps went down noticibly. Still hates the stop and go traffic, but not as much. And I agree, Seattle traffic does suck! I gotta get outta here!

Temp

Klay;

Is your temperature sender in the same place now as when it was stock?? I run about 140-150 towing on the flat. Sender in output line. Combined weight at about 19K

Nope... . I have mine installed in the output line going to the heat exchanger coming off the TC. Bill at DTT says that is the best place to have it installed!

I don't run the DTT transmission, I use someone else's, but for comparison I run 150 to 170 in lockup in OD pulling whats in my signature, up hill or down hill, if the outside temps are below 70 degrees it will not move off the 140 mark.
