Hello,

Dropped the transmission pan to change the atf fluid and filter today and found pieces of a metal clutch disc (I think) in the bottom. Transmission was working fine and i had no indication of a problem, just performing routine maintenance. Can anyone reccomend a repair shop in southwest montana (near Butte)?

Thanks for your time, John

I would send them an email also, cover all the bases. Bottom of linked address "About Us" contact us.
Good luck, hope it is not to severe.

Dave

Thanks David, I sent them an email with photos yesterday.

Bob4x4, that is something I was wondering about as far as if a standard transmission shop could work on it or not. I can't remember the things that are different between a stock transmission and a DTT transmission besides the torque converter and how it locks up. Thanks for your time

That is why I recommended finding a DTT installer. It has been a while but I believe at least one clutch drum is different with added plates, clutches, springs etc. Upgraded seals and so forth. Not saying a trans guy cannot fix it but he will probably freak out when he see's 8 clutch disks where the manual shows 6, much less all the other mods that make it a DTT trans. Of course I could also be wrong with this type of thinking :)

Still no luck on finding a DTT installer anywhere near here. I have sent two emails and left two voice mails with DTT and have not heard a word from them (not a good sign). I showed the pieces to our local dodge dealer mechanic and he said it is a thrust washer.

Not a good sign when you get no response. I to emailed them over the weekend on an unrelated question and not a peep so far. I will keep my thoughts on this to myself for now. If it is simply a thrust washer Bob maybe right with the Dodge dealer and if DTT is not going to respond you will have to have it looked at some how.

Thanks David. I will see what happens in the next few days and start talking to some transmission shops in the next town. I felt better when the mechanic told me it was a thrust washer. We shall see.

Bill and Stefan Kondalay and DTT were at the top of the heap for many years. Perhaps our economy and Dodge's move to MOPAR six speed automatics or Aisins has killed their business. I haven't seen the same level of talk on TDR about transmission builders like we used to see or heard anything from DTT for several years. They could simply be temporarily unavailable, I have no idea.

Several years ago DTT had authorized transmission builders all over the US. Perhaps a member can refer you to one in the northwest you can contact to find out if DTT is still active. James Northrum at Midlothian, TX was a DTT builder. He built the 48RE in my '06. James has a website with a phone number you can call to ask him. He'll know. http://www.jamestranstech.com/about.htm

I wouldn't give up on DTT until you know for sure.

I was going to give an update when my truck was running again. As of right now, it is not. It has been a slow and expensive project. For whatever reason a thrust washer let go in the transmission which damaged other items. I removed the transmission in early December and brought it to the local dealer. My repair bill from the dealer was $1,600. The dealer installed the DTT master rebuild kit, a new servo and accumulator (DTT parts as well) and planetary gears (sun gear?). I am still waiting for a new Torque Converter from DTT and it is supose to be in my hands today. My total bill to DTT was $2,214 for torque converter, flex plate, rebuild kit, servo and accumulator. Hopefully i can get started on installing the transmission this weekend.

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

When I wanted to get a question to them I tried the Email thing to no avail, I made a phone call and BINGO they more than likely busy and playing on the computer is the last thing any want to do after twisting wrenches all day. A phone call is better anyway it get's TO THE POINT. They are the BEST in my Opinion.

Just an update. The truck is running again. The transmission install went pretty well. I was worried i would forget how things went back together. Anyway, the transmission seems to be working well so far but I have only driven a short distance. Thanks for your help and thanks to Turbo Diesel Register. What a great resource.

I did many DTT trans back in the day and had great experiences using their products, but my situation cahanged and I am out of the loop. Last time I talked to Bill He wanted to spend more time drag racing. Last time I talked to Stephan it was about racing in Baja, tried talking him into driving down.

From what I've read they have turned into more of an internet company & do sales only. Did anyone ever get in touch with Bill? I know it's just a matter of time for me....125k trouble free DTT miles on mine but soft parts are soft parts! I hate the idea of going a different direction but if they aren't doing installs or have authorized installers I don't think it leaves many choices.....
