Okay DTT guys I need some advice. In the next month or so I am going to get my DTT transmission updated and tuned up. When I bought the TC/VB combo that was all that DTT offered and so I bought it. I have been very happy but I have been running it about 200 HP over its intended (what I told Bill I was going to run) setup. So here is the question, considering the mods in my signature (and adding super mental injectors) what exactly should I do. My TC is a 91%.

Here is my plan, tell me if it too much or not enough...

Go through transmission and replace any worn parts (a given).

A full DTT update kit, including clutches and billet piston.

Add a billet input shaft

Add smart controller

Have valve body checked and recalibrated to current HP rating

Have TC checked for wear and resurfaced (lined) if necessary.

How does that sound??

Do I need a billet output shaft too???

So I know the next question, how do you use your truck. Well basically I just drive it a my daily driver, do a little street racing (ie smoking the ricers and Fords) and I tow my snowmachines and drift boat around. I have been considering going to the drag strip but I have resolved to re-upgrade the transmission first.

So let it rip, what do I need.

Thanks,

John

Massdiesel just re did my DTT setup. I went from an Old School DTT to an updated version. I dropped my converter from a 93% to a 91% (Seems just as tight as the old 93%) and now have Billet input , piston , servo , andsmart controller. Great setup! I have boost launched @ 25lbs  before and the stock output shaft has held together for me. HOWEVER I have seen a truck as of recent snap an output with 15 lbs so there is a varience. Being you are going bullit..... er... BILLET proof I would get the shaft.

Well yes that is what I was thinking, but the last time I heard the billet output shafts where fairly expensive, like the cost of the rest of the rebuild. Its not that I don't want it, I just wonder if its worth the expense. The input shaft I know needs to be billet.

Keep the replies coming.

If your going to race it you might as well get the output too. It's only a matter of time before it snaps drag racing and it is cheaper to have it put in now instead of down the road. Just think of it as saving money down the road and it will be easier to justify :D .

:D An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. :D Good advice from Nathan. Racing is hard on parts. I guess you're taking the truck down to Abbotsford? A visit to Bill's shop is always fun.

John, I'm with Nathan. If you are going to race your Ram it would be money wisely spent upgrading to all the latest hard parts... including the billet output shaft assembly. Also, I see that you are also adding the DTT Smart Controller... an awesome controller indeed! And, the upgrade to the billet input shaft is money wisely invested too as the Smart Controller works so well, if the operation parameters are not not setup properly and/or utilized properly, it can lead to a snapped input shaft (during extreme Smart Controller down shifting... especially with a very heavy load and steep descent).

All the other upgrades are a wise choice now. Need to pull the transmission to do the input shaft, etc. The billet output shaft is a bit easier to get to, and you are right, Expensive. If you are going to be drag racing and or sled pulling, then get it now. If not, you can have the stock one replaced a bunch of times for what the new billet costs! I heard in the neighborhood of 8 bills just for the shaft. JM 2 cents.

If you can't swing it all, miss out on the chance for the output shaft for now. It's going to need replaced in the future, but, as I'm told, the Transmission does not need dropped to do the billet output. Just drop the Crossmember, and T-Case, unbolt the O. D. section, and put in the Billet O. D. Section. Then Bolt it all back up.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Um,, Just be sure to get the Billet Input,, Even if you do have to sleep on the couch.

My $. 02
