Why Doesn't D/C Build a GREAT Trans?

Just finished reading reading the post about truck whose transmission couldn't handle the DTT VB. Unfortunately that fits me too (and alot of other owners). I did turn the pressure up and reset the shift points. And that helps alot but, Dodge's poor design still shows through.

Bill K. if you read this, have you given any thought to setting up a VB for use guys with the stock transmission that can't handle the good stuff? My truck only has 70,000 on it and I get the feeling that the transmission in it is going to last awhile. I'm sure your setup is worth every penny, I just can't spend that much to fix something that's not completely broken. But, would really appreciate the benifits of a decent shifting VB, even if it wouldn't hold the mega horsepower I may have in the future.

One of the things that seperates our products from others is the fact that we do everything in our power to make your transmission live as long as possible.

An important factor is that we run higher line pressure.

This is the major reason that our valve bodies are not recommended for higher mileage transmissions. If the internal seals are in poor condition the higher pressures can actually cause premature transmission failure rather than prolonging it, and unfortunately this cannot determined without examining them.

To build you something that would work in your application would take a sacrifice in pressure. By sacrificing the pressure you are taking away the benefit of the after market valve body, as you could achieve relatively the same results with the factory valve body.

In my personal opinion it is not worth doing this higher pressure valve body as my primary concern is the potential for actually blowing out the lipseal . There are several aftermarket companies selling valve bodies with minimal pressure increases and claim they will not have a lip seal problem. This claim is valid because if you were to measure the pressure of their aftermarket valvebdy you would find out that it is only a few psi above stock and could have easily been achieved with your stock valve body.

So in my opinion DR you have done exactly what i would have done, given yourself the pressure increase the stock transmission can handle without sacrificing the size of your pocketbook.

There are a few tricks i can teach you if you want to get a little more performance from your present factory valve body, but you will need to remove it.

I hope this gives you a little insight to the method behind my madness.

Hey bill, I fit into this catagory of not haveing the money yet for a full upgrade, I learned how to increase the pressure from you several months ago and its helped alot. but what are these tips for getting a bit more preformance?? can you e-mail them? or is it too complicated? phone call perhapse? Jim

Bill, thanks for the quick response. I would really appreciate anything you could teach me to improve the transmission's shifting. Mainly the 1-2 shift. Pulling the valve body's no problem and I have done shift kits before on some of the cars I have owned. Is there anything you could email?

I too am in the process of installing a Transgo shift kit in my truck with 70000 miles and have to pull the transmission any how to install a new converter (new bushing and seal too). Bill if you read this, correct me if I am wrong, a must to do if you are going to increase any pressure especially in an older trans in good working order is to replace the seals on the front drum and input shaft with the ones in the shift kit to better handle the increased pressure.

That's correct about the seals, that's why instead of popping in a $375 valve body on my own I'm now paying $1700 for the full-blown DTT treatment. Bill, you're really lucky I married the woman I did - I'd have just cranked up the stock line pressure until she suggested I take the whole tax refund!
