2nd gear starts usually leads to the pressure transducer/governor in the trans. If you manually shift to first when stopped that will usually be the tell tale that the problem is in the trans. I have replaced mine twice in 75k miles.
I agree it might be that but also my voltage regulator is no longer adjustable. It is set at 11 volts no matter where the pot screw is turned to. I think that means its telling the computer there is to much pressure there and going into limp mode.
That seems high, I have never had to adjust mine, and I know they are probably different, but 4. 5 to 5 volts seems to be in my memory..... email DTT and ask, they will get back to you.
I had a 98. 5 that was DTT and the voltage was set at 4. 5 and had to up it over the phone to 5. 0 so I think you are close. I agree with JJPage either email or phone them as they are great to work with. Good luck.
