Many people have either heard or seen an alternator being used as a welder. I won't go into that but there is plenty of information around the web. My question is has anyone seen a kit or braket used for dual alternator on our beloved cummins? there are kits for ford and chevy, but it seems there are no kits for dodge.

irony is i would probably need a welder to make my own braket but all i have is the alternator welder i made and nothing to drive it with :{

I have searched for a dual alternator setup or braket as well. All over the net both in forums for homemade options and companies for premade setups. Seems no one has attempted this for Dodges yet, hard to believe. I was going to do the fabrication work myself until I heard the possibilty that Dodge will introduce this as an option on the "next generation" of medium duties, i. e. the 6. 7L engine cab and frame trucks. As soon as those engines are out I will be hitting up my dealership for parts to convert my truck to the dual setup. I already asked my local service manager and he said if Dodge made a factory setup that my conversion would be covered under warranty. I'm hoping all of the bolt on braketing will remain the same on the front of the 6. 7L as it currently is on the 5. 9L. That's going to be the only way this might work otherwise I'll have to make my own and fight with the dealership on anything electrical which just about covers the whole truck these days! Now in your case if you set up the second one as a welder only and don't tie into the electrical system at all then I would see no problems with any warranty work if ever needed.

Barry, That was a good thought since they make custom bracketry for many applications (including 2nd and 3rd gen Dodge diesels), but because their design is for a York compressor (flat square bottomed mounting) it will not help at all for anything round application wise such as an alternator. Thanks for bringing it to mind though.
