Well after installing a new battery about every 2 years i finaly converted mine over to a dual battery setup the 2 group 27 950cca batteries fit nicely on the existing battery tray with just a few hold down modifications and a little wiring the finished product looks almost factory, i posted some pics in www.photopoint.com and type in my email address rducsh@erols.com in the view members albums box

Nicely done rick!
Last year I added dual batteries to my truck as well. Although I like the way your mounting bracket looks better than mine!
I added 2 1000cca batteries with servicable caps. This year one appears to be leaking alittle. Wish I'd have spent $40 more and purchased some Optima Batteries. I think the vibs from engine have caused it!?
Whats that thing that says Solar something on the forward most bat. ? Solar charger??
Did you link both together in line? or use some kind of relay to separate them for individual use? I noticed use seem to put some demand on them!

Eugene,
Thats a solargizer it's meant to keep the electolite crystals from forming on the battery plates, the jury's still out on it's performance,
The 2 batteries i just wired in parallel i've also got 2 batteries in the camper isolated with a solenoid that i can energize to jump the front batteries, i hav'nt found a solenoid yet that i can leave charging for more than an hour or so and they burn up, any ideas from anybody would be helpfull ... ... ... Hey Rick! Great looking rig!

I'm also in the market for a Four Wheel Camper. I have checked out their web page and have decided this is the camper for for my 1992.

Is there a distributor east of the Mississippi or will I have to make the drive to California!

Thanks Rick & Dave for any info you might have.
Keeno

Keeno,
California is the closest, but they will ship it to you, they'll wait until they have 4 campers coming this way and ship them together an the 4 buyers split the cost about $650 each, but the drive out to pick it up is worth it if you do'nt mind driving and you can use the camper the whole way home i went back thru nevada and utah and spent about 10 or 11 days getting back.
The man to talk to at 4 wheel camper is Mike Duncan, nice guy and helpfull, any questions about the camper you can call or email no problem 757-255-2346, or come check it out

Hey Rick!

Thanks for the information. I'm not against driving to California, picking up a new Four Wheel Camper and making an adventure out of the trip. It's just that I have just completed a 31 day round trip to the Baja Peninsula and back to Nashville, Tn. over Christmas. Maybe Christmas 2000 for a return trip to the 'left' coast!

Had a great time, my 1992 W250 performed flawlessly for the 7800 mile trip. With all the beach camping & sea-kayaking we did, it became apparent that a slid-in fold down camper would be the hot ticket for these trips. We did alright sleeping and camping out of my Lear topper, but a slid in would have been Bliss! It looks like Four Wheel Campers's make one of the lightest & best.

Thanks for the inspiration! Keeno

Hey Rick!

One more Question. I realized that I'm digessing from your original posting subject but I noticed you have replaced both of your differentials with aftermarket units.

What is your opinion of the perfomance of your 'Detroit Locker' on the street? I know of it's legendary performance in the dirt. I was wondering if it's too aggressive of an application for a truck that spends 80% street / 20% off road? Can you hear the cams racheting while cornering on the street.

Also, who manufactures 'Lock Rite' in your front diff? I was thinking about a Dana 'True Trac' for my front.

Thanks for any of your thoughts! Keeno

Keeno,
I realy like the lockers, and with the wieght of these trucks you can't hardly tell it's there on the street, under normal driving conditions ,hard acceleration around corners will provide a nice tire chip, but no tourque steer to speek of,
and actualy my detoit locker is still sitting beside me in a box, hav'nt had time to change it out, i'm still running the lock-rite front and nad back 30k miles know and no problems and that included the moab trip, so i have'nt been in a real hurry to change it out (if it aint broke!!), the lockrites are realy easy to install i did both axles in 4 hours by my self, the only problem i have with the locker in the front is somtimes if your pulling hard up a soft hill the truck just wants to go straight,i guess thats the reason for the ARB air lockers for the front, but for the price and performance so far the lock rite has'nt been able to be beat... ... ... ... ...
