Is there a way to tell if your DMF is shot? I have a rough idle, there are no codes except the one when my batteries died and were replaced (P2509). I'm trying to check the easy things first before I bite the bullet and have everything torn down and replaced.

I don't notice anything above idle, the truck shifts fine and there's no difference if the clutch is in or not and no change wether the truck is in gear or neutral.

Mark,

Shut down noise can be an indicator. If the DMF is starting to fail, it goes into a death rattle and vibration is very likely. The DMF has two flywheel components, one attached to the crank and the other driven by the torsion damper is the secondary flywheel. If the bushing that the secondary rides on gets loose, secondary is no longer "piloted" and goes out of balance.

How many miles on truck?

Mark,

Shut down shake would sound different from DMF death rattle. Consider trying this. WITH CAUTION.

Get under truck from drivers side, have a REAL GOOD BUDDY start the engine he'll be controlling you'll be listening. Shut off engine, listen right at the clutch area. Repeat with pedal up vs. pedal down. Pedal down puts maybe 300-350 lbs of force against the clutch assy pushing on the secondary. If this changes the shutdown noise, might be a decent diagnosis of DMF demise.

Had the problem with my 2006 flywheel and clutch. When it goes bad the whole truck will vibrate. You can see the doors moving... The springs are coming apart. When it completely goes you will hear it. You will feel the vibration also as it gets worse. Common problem with the DMF. Actually this should be a recall by Dodge.
