I have an Ams/Oil dual oil filter kit that I want to install on my 2007, 5. 9, AT, 4WD, Regular Cab pickup.

Have any of you installed one of these kits on this model truck? If so, WHERE did you mount the filters and how did you run the hoses to keep them from getting pinched or too hot from the exhaust system?

I have one of these set ups on my 2001 truck, but the mounting is going to have to be in a different location on this 2007 truck.

Thanks in advance.

I have the 5. 9 engine and in looking under the truck, it appears to me that the install would have to be on the frame under the cab, just as you say. However, it looks like it might be tough to find a way to run the hoses without getting them too hot next to the exhaust system or risk getting them kinked or pinched if routed too near the steering/suspension components.
I may just forget about trying to do it... . ie, too much hassel for the benefits.

Keep in mind that any time you put engine lube oil through external hoses, there is always the possibility of unintended consequences. I remember years ago on this forum when everyone was into pre-lubers which were plumbed into the lube system, and we all know how that turned out. You could be into a situation here where the cure, while desirable, is worse than the disease.

I agree.
I have had several of the AMS/OIL dual by-pass filter set ups and all worked quite well, including 1 on an '86 GMC K3500 454 and currently 1 on my '01 Dodge 2500 5. 9; Unfortunately, it appears that trying to install the set up on the '07 is not going to be as practical/simple and I will probably not go forward with the install.
The install on my '01 was straight forward and the system keeps the oil clean enough to read the dip stick markings through the oil for 10K miles or more, no kidding.

I have the 5. 9 in my '07 and it appears to me that running the lines away from the exhaust in order to hang the filter mount on the frame will be tough---tough in that the lines will be closer to the hot exhaust pipe than I like.
Hanging the filter mount on the frame appears to be simple, but (again) getting the 2 hoses from the original oil filter mount down to the frame mounted dual filter mount appears that I will need to have the hoses too close to the exhaust pipe for my comfort.
On my '01, the filter dual filter mount is up on top around the passenger-side battery and running the lines was a piece of cake on that truck. On the 5. 9 in the '07, the battery and air filter housing have swapped places (compared to the '01) and I don't see any way to hang the dual filter mount in the engine compartment... . thus I have been looking at a frame location for it.
Also, I live and play in the West and I can't risk having anything running on the bottom of the frame or in any location down low where it could get damaged by a sage brush or hidden rock.

Installed a dual filter setup on my 97 - worked great. Removed it and reinstalled it on my 04. Mounted it to an existing hole in the frame across from where the engine and trans meet. Had no problem running the lines to it. The filters are away from the exhaust pipe.

Only problem is when mounting to the frame you hear the oil pump running. I used some rubber to mount it and that helped a lot. Used a piece of washing machine hose through the frame and ran a 1/2" bolt through it and used a nylock nut to keep it tight. The rubber keeps the oil pump vibration sound down.

System sure keeps the oil clean.

Here is where I installed my single bypass. You could probably do a dual setup there, but the EaBP-110 is almost too large to mount vertically.

With the new BMK-25 Amsoil clams you can run it on the 03+ HPCR's, but I have still read about issues. So in all reality the BMK-21 and the EaO80 is the same filtration, cheaper, and causes no low oil psi lights.

To Bill Weber,

Thanks for your reply. Here are some follow-up questions/comments:

I am confident in how/where on the frame to mount the filters. And, I am fine with putting the adapter from my '01 onto the '07. Where I am running into questions is how to route the 2 hoses from the adapter to the filter mount without getting them too close to the hot exhaust system or having to run them under the frame where they could perhaps be damaged if I go into the sage brush. I have been planning to mount the filters on the inside of the frame under the cab, away from the exhaust pipe, but I have not decided how to run the 2 lines to keep them safe.

So, Bill, where did you run the 2 oil lines on your truck?

Thanks again for your input.

On my 02' the under side of my aftermarket front bumper worked great. It made access for oil changes really easy. I replaced all the hoses with wire braided units since I worried about a blown line tanking the engine. Plus the engine vibration pretty much insures that somewhere a hose will end up rubbing on something.

There are no issues with my lines running where they are. I run from the filter housing down the frame, just above the upper control arm to the filter mount. I do plenty of backroads driving, and have never gotten anything even close to the lines.

On my '01, I have the "battery bracket" mount that was made by a fellow out east, so the fliter mount is right up along the passenger-side battery and the lines this man supplied with his kit are braided SS. This has been a great set-up, but I need to do it a different way on the '07 because the battery is in a different location.

Along with the battery bracket mount and the SS hoses, this man made a beautiful adapter out of billet aluminum that allows a person to adjust the inlet/outlet hose location to whatever direction is required. Very useful and a top quality piece.

Again, on the '07, I can use the neat billet adapter and the Ams/Oil filter mount from my '01, but I will need to get new longer SS hoses made and do some more calculating on just where to route those new hoses to keep them safe.

I had looked at running them above the upper control arm, but was worried that I might end up pinching them if I hit a chuck hole... . or having them rub and wear until they failed. I'll take another look at that location. And, certainly the hoses and filter mount will need to go on the inside of the frame to keep them away from the exhaust pipe.

Jim: Maybe an 07 is different from my 04. I ran the oil lines along the frame from the stock location to where I mounted the dual filter bracket. They are nowhere near any exhaust lines. As I said before the mount is on the frame opposite where the motor and trans connect.

To Jim Ross: Jim, I ran the oil lines straight down to the top of the x member under the oil pan. (12-13") Then straight back to the frame across from the intersection of the motor and bell housing. (16-18") The oil lines are not close to any exhaust lines. Hope this helps.
