Had a rock sling out of the passeneger front tire and busted a hole through the filter housing on my previous 97. ... . lost the turbo and about 5 qts. at 70 mph. took lesss than 200 yds. Also wrap the lines with soft foam padding (like you wrap a/c lines with) if it touches the cab. It will be very loud if you don't . Mine was bolted to the outside of the frame rail right under the front passenger s seat. If I run it again I will put a protective cage around them.
 
Knowing my vital engine oil was leaving the engine and returning through a line that could be sheared off or rupture worried me. I had custom wire braided hoses made up to offer higher PSI ratings and the ultimate in protection from flying debris. My 02' bypass filters are mounted under my Ranch Hand style bumper for super easy access.
 
I mounted mine below the radiator on lower radiator support of my 02 3500
