On the buildout on our new truck it lists under the Max Tow Package "Dual Transmission Oil Cooler". How is this different from a non Max Tow buildout and where is this "extra" cooler??

Realy Love the new truck so far!!:) Will make our first tow with the 5th wheel next weekend. Just a short pull of 40 miles to a local camp ground but a good test run of sorts.

I was told by a high up Chrysler guy my 11 HO non Max Tow is exactly the same except for the rear diff cover and 4:10 gears (just the gears are different). So I would like to see the difference if there is any. I installed the Mag Hytec rear diff cover that holds more oil than the Max Tow cover.

I believe the Max Tow pkg includes an upgraded torque converter as well as heavier rated rear axle bearings, rear diff finned cover, and trans cooler. At least this is what Ram has advertised is the past.

I had read here a while back that the carrier gears in the rear diff were supposed to be different. When I was having my diff rebuilt I asked the parts guy to look up the carrier fo r the max tow and he said it had the same part number????? Also that the max tow had the extra cooler and a different converter as well.

I was surprised to find out when researching the truck before buying that the 2500 and 3500 have the same brakes, rotors, pads etc. Other then spring ratings they are the same..... I too am still trying to figure out where the second trans cooler is on my max tow. I will say one thing, no matter what I did, up hill, downshift etc, the transmission never got hotter then 210 pulling the 17K 5th wheel.

I talked to Randy's Ring and Pinion about changing gears and asked about the bearings, they said they are all the same. Like I said before the Chrysler guy said the only difference is the gear ratio and the diff cover.

So I would like someone to show us the difference, if there is one.

,Isn't the max tow a different harmonic balancer ,programing on ECM,TCM ,different torque converter only ?and a different rear diff cover

There is an 2nd trans cooler located on the side of the engine. It is an oil to water cooler.
This is in addition to the std unit in front grill area.

The HO had a different Harmonic balancer, torque converter and software. The MAX TOW had the different gears, fined cover and the aux trans cooler. HO and MAX tow are not the same. You can have the HO w/o the max tow, but you will have the HO with the max tow because it is an automatic. Only the manual transmission trucks have the NON HO motor

I haven't had time to do much research on the new transmission coolers. When I look up a new engine the engine mounted water to oil transmission cooler that Cummins supplied with the engine is no longer an option. That tells me that Ram has redesigned the coolers for at least the Max Tow package and they now are a dealer only item.

Maybe they have one mounted on the transmission as big trucks do????

Mike.
