dual turbo silencer

i am a turbo man. so i figured i would just remove the ring from the turbo as i did on my 99. but now i understand that there is another silencer in the form of a piece of plastic on the air inlet tube



has anyone removed both silencing systems? i am going to remove the ring but i dont know what to do with the plastic tube.

how to remove... . anyone? how loud is it with both removed? i cant even hear my turbo whistle on my 03

It's the 5-6 inch plastic piece in between the turbo bend and the filter bend. It's a tube with a + inside filled with holes. Not sure how it could silence anything. I figure I will just wait till someone comes out with a full intake kit and then remove the whole mess. I can hear my turbo real good when it's in the boost.

2nd day of ownership i xed ring and broke the baffles out of the mystery tube with a hammer and cleaned it out real good with compressed air to make sure i didnt tear up my turbo! it has a perfect whistle not obnoxious at all, perfect.

I did both the mods after 2 weeks of silence. Take a hack saw blade to the inside of the plastic silencer assembly and carefully saw it out. Make sure you remove all the leftover garbage so it doesn't get sucked through the turbo.

I made my own de-swirler replacement. I found a 5. 5" o. d. piece of aluminum at work. Cut it down to 6. 5" long and 5. 25" o. d. and polished it up. Looks great. Email me if you pictures.



The turbo is MUCH louder and sounds great!!



So far I ditched the muffler a week after I bought it, then removed the silencer ring and installed the aluminum piece mentioned above. The sound makes the truck a totally different animal!!

Got rid of both of mine today. Sounds much better. Turbo music pretty similar to the sound of my 94 with no ring and BHAF. (without the p7100 background noise )

x-ed the silencer ring today. I have to admit, i'm a little let down. Can't say that i hear any difference This is my first diesel. I've always loved the way the diesels sound, with the quietness of my 03 CTD i'm searching for some good sound obviously.

beer man are you sure you took out the plate behind the lock ring? i didnt my first time , i took out the lock ring but not the plate behind it but it was misleading from what i read, "duh" for me. i took mine out first morning of ownership and the one in the tube "have hammer... can fix". sound is ok but want to put on high flow filter. let us know.

Yeah, i took the plate out, i guess i was looking for something of a more extreme sound. I will take out the + on the intake tube tomorrow and see how that does. Eventually i will add a high air flow filter.
