The more I work under my 98, the more the rusty undercarriage grates on me.

The body seems to be in pretty good shape ( some surface rust), but the frame, the suspension, drive-train, etc, are all rusty and pitted. Especially at the frame welds, and drive-lines, u-joints, etc.

IMO, it looks like the only right way to fix this, is to lift off the bed and body, sand blast all the rust off, then apply some type of rust-stop, then some HD undercarriage paint. (I did a search on this, and it looks like there are some really good products for rust problems like this. )

I'm going to have access to a lift for a few days, but but my question is, how much trouble will it be to lift the cab off? (I'm not concerned about removing the bed. ) I've never taken a cab or body off a frame.

Any advice or direction you guys can give me on this, would be much appreciated.

Ray

It must not be too hard (if you have the right equipment) because to R&R an engine the local Dodge dealer pulls ALL sheetmetal off from the bed forward, I have seen several 2nd gen trucks in the shop over the years in that condition.

once you disconnect the wiring from the motor and frame and rad lines brake lines and steering shaft the whole cab and front end can come off in one unit
