I have 3 duallys and my son has 1... . we've had problems with the clearance lights on the dually fender... pulling this apart we find that the electrical connection between the bulb and the plastic housing is bad and its caused the housing to melt... . they are 26 bucks each from the dealer.....

We only have the 05 left under warranty... the others are over on mileage... 01, 04 and 04. 5..... as we fix these trucks we are putting some dielectric (sp) grease on the connection to see if we can make it last longer... .

The pins on the light bulb and the connector are different metals and with the chemical on the roads here... . they are going away... .

Check them now... and put the grease into them so that you have a good sealed connection...

They are available aftermarket for much less. The brand that I have used in the past is Truklite, there are others as well another brand is Grote, readily available from anyplace that deals in truck parts including the Tdr favorite Napa

We took a sample of the bad part to Napa, and 2 other suppliers... they refered us back to the Dealer.....

This is the side clearance light on the dually fender... with a hokey plastic connector that has no protection..... I've looked at my trucklite catalog and don't see it in the listings... ...

I occasionally had some issues with the fender clearance lights on my 96, but nothing so far with the 05.

Bob, the 03-06 is a standard #168 bulb, so there's nothing a parts shop can do for you if you damage the lens or the housing - the 2nd gen trucks had the "sealed" units that could be replaced aftermarket pretty easily.

Switch to LED lights and you will probally solve the problem. LED lights plug right in and they lass for around 100,000 hours. We have them in stock, both amber and red for about a 1/4 what you were paying. Call or go on line at www.proweldperformanceparts.com this should save you both time and money, good luck.

well that s***ks,I guess they aren't too bad though I havent had to take one apart yet.

Bob

I took my last one apart with a stair handrail.

Oops.

Cost me $29 from my dealer. I haven't had any problems here, but we have a very dry climate here.
