I did a pretty lengthy search on the TDR for info and found some but need some help with this. I just bought a 1999 3500 that has 4 holes in the rims / simulators. The simulators look like crap and I want to make the wheels look better. My first thought was to go with rims... but after some research if I do this I realized that rotating tires is a major pain if not completely impossible. It seems simulators are the best option but I love the look of REAL chrome lug nuts.

So... I guess what I am asking is there such a thing as simulators that can use chrome lug nuts to be attached? Is that what "bolt on" means? Where would I get the aftermarket lug nuts that would work? What have others done and what other simulators have others members purchased that are high quality and look good?

Thanks

Phil

Phil,

I have a 99 3500 DRW and also was in the same situation as you are. I thought about Alum rim replacements but after looking at cost I went with new Simulators. I 1st ordered the basic Simulator from Summit and after being promised that they were not under the lugnut mounting, they were! I returned them and went with the Phoenix DOT Liner which is one of the nicest simulators out IMHO. The fit and finish is perfect and the cost is not bad. I ordered just the fronts for now and am 100% happy. To mount them you just take two of the provided double sided studs and thread onto the two proper studs(outside of the lugnut), then place the simulator in place and then take one of the two Lugnut Simulator and thread those onto the double sided Stud which is on the lugnut stud already. That is it, I check the tightness of those 2 once a month or so. I wil snap a pic or two this weekend and post it. Feel free to Pm me with anymore questions. :D

I found this pic below posted somewhere... What kind of rim is this? This is what I would really like to have. Is it a rim or a simulator? Looks like a rim. Where did they get those long lug nuts? I love 'em!

Thanks

Phil

I do not have enough (any exposed) threads on the front wheels to attach the stud extenders. Now what?
Thanks for the help.

Those look a lot like Alcoa Hot Shots to me. You can get them in the OEM size. Alcoas polish very nice too.

Yep. Hot shots. Those are the actual Alcoa lugnuts... Those style lugnuts were discontinued around '96-7, going to a plastic chromed slip-over cover cap. I might have a set, if you're REALLy interested.... Check out www.southwestwheel.com for Alcoa wheels, but be prepared for sticker shock!
