I have 12,500 miles on the truck and the rear tires seem to be about half gone. I noticed one of the tires was flat and got to checking and noticed the tire had a slice in it that is obviously not repairable. Even though I hate to, I figure I will go ahead and put four new tires on the back. I know some people will say to just find a used one and throw on there for a while but I don't really want to do that, with it being a dually I would like the tires to be wore the same amount, if it was a single wheel I might do that.

Does anyone have any recommendations on tires. I like to use michelins on our other vehicles but haven't seemed to get the wear advantage on the trucks to justify the cost in my previous experience, so I would just like to hear someone else's opinion. Thanks.

If they arent the same there will be a battle between the two and they will wear faster. They have to turn at the same speed so if one is smaller something has to give. Also the air pressure need to be the same in both. I learned all of this the hard way. The small of the two will wear the fastest, or I should say fast.

Mine was just the opposite with the General Ameritracs, I have 20,450 miles on my truck and the rears are still in really good shape, but the fronts were wearing down...I went ahead and purchased two new tires for the front, same OEM tires....For some reason, the tires that come on the truck don't seem to last as long as the brand new one you purchase and put back on the truck, even if it's the same tire. I really like Michelin's, but for the pricing I get on the Generals, I'll stay with them a little longer, but again, when replacing all tires on a truck, I've usually gone with Michelin LTX M&S tires...

Yeah, I have those on our 4runner and they have been excellent, but the michelins on my other truck are doing ok but not lasting long enough to justify the extra cost in my opinion. I don't know if it is the gravel roads or just the extra abuse from pulling trailers or what the reason is, but that has been my experience with them

I guess with the front tires, I do all my driving and towing in the mountains of NC, TN, VA and WV, so with all the driving on mountainous, curvy roads, it will take a toll on the tires....Again, The Ameritracs have done very well and are very affordable, thus, I went with two brand new one's on the front and the 4 rears still look very good....:)

I think I may go try a set of Firestone transforce AT and see how they do I guess. I don't want to drive around looking like a moron to much longer with the outside dual flat, although you can't hardly tell it's even flat.

I have 75000 on my Michelins on the all the way around. I know I can get at least another 30K before replacement. I tow heavy. 4100 front axle 8000 rear axle and 14000 on the trailer. Most of the miles I do are highway. And I won't have anything else but Michelins.

My 99 came with Michelin LTX/AS. I have never run anything else and every set has gone over 100,000 miles and still had 2 to 3/32 tread left.

When the Generals go away because of the first sign of tread separation problems or wear, the truck will get a set of Michelins. I've run the LTX as well as the XPS Rib on previous trucks, have never had a problem and have gotten good tread life from them. Since the XPS Rib isn't available in a 17" size, I guess that narrows it down to one of the variants of the LTX by default.

My '14 RAM 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 DRW is at 40,690 miles as of this evening. I rotated the tires earlier today, in addition to replacing both fuel filters and an oil change. My tires all average 7/32nds to 8/32nds tread depth.....I imagine they'll easily go 68 to 70k miles. They have been vibration free and overall great tires IMO. I'll go back with them most likely.....or I might go with the Firestone Transforce H/T's. I've been pleased with other Firestones in the past.
