I need to replace my stock tires on my dually. I am carrying a large camper 3600lbs. What is the largest tire I can put on 235/80/16's? What about tire slap? Big investment and I don't want to blow it.

Be careful with the larger tires than the 215's because there will not be very much of a gap between the dually tires. I've seen 235's on a 97 cab & chassis and he didn't have hardly any gap with Michelins. The Michelin Rib tire or other brands might not be quite as bad. The newer 3500's with the factory 235's have a different wheel with more offset!
I haul oilfield supplies for a living on my flatbed and I just bought a new set of 215's because of that very reason.

FDIESEL, according to information in a older issue of the TDR, a 9. 4" cross section width is the widest tire you can safely run on your truck. Some 235's will work, some won't.

Most tire manufactures can provide information on their tires for on a given rim width. I belive our rims are 6. 5" wide. I'd suggest talking to a few dealers, find one that'll work with you and if a set of tires won't work, change them out at no charge. Also, check member profiles for what they run and don't forget to do a search on tires.

Finally, avoid spacers, good luck.

Another (albiet expensive) alternative is to run the Rickson Truck 19. 5" wheels and tires. I have 'em on my '96 3500 and love 'em. the offset is slightly more pronounced and there's plenty of room between the rear tires.

I run 75 psi all the way around in the tires (95 is the max) when my camper is on the truck (camper weighs somewhere between 3600-4200#) and the rear tires don't bulge AT ALL. I also use air springs to keep things level.

Handling is outstanding, and should get even better once I replace my Bilsteins with my newly-arrived RS9000s.

The upside of the 225/70-19. 5's over 235/85-16's are they're F load rated (compared to E) and they should last roughly twice as long, and they're regrooveable.
