dually vs. non dually front hubs?

Can anyone answer why all the dually's I've seen seem to have the front hubs stick way outside the outer edge of the front tire and non dually's are just normal?



My only guesses are that it's something to do with the track width of the rear maybe, but it doesn't seem like the tires sit out any further from the body.



So what would a wider hub get you? More load capacity by using larger bearings? I don't think the axle is rated any higher on duallys.

Never had a dually, but I always figured they put the spacer on there so that the fronts can use the same rims as the rears.
