Dually Wheel Options

OK- Since I had a bad day anyway and am going to be replacing my tires sooner than I'd like (don't ask ) I thought I'd do a little asking of wheel options for the training wheel equipped (dually's).



Other than the obvious, and rather expensive 19. 5 Ricksons, and the also obvious and expensive Alcoas... ... ... is it me or are there just not that many choices available? Anyone find anything else??

I had Eagle Series 58s on my Dually. At the time I got these you couldn't get Alcoas without 2-3 month wait. These were cheaper and I was happy with them. Bought them from a local truck and tire shop.

You can get alcoa's at www.southwestwheel.com----in texas for $135. 00 a piece, and they will last for the life of your truck. Ian

Actually the Alcoa deal isn't bad, works out to about $800 for the set of four when you include what you need . My local had quoted me $1200 for the set if 4 !



You guys who are running them- did you buy 4 and use the steel wheels on the inside or did you buy 6 for the ease of rotation ?

Dodge had aluminum wheels that used the stock centers and lug nuts. My dealer sells them to TDR members for $156 each. They were discontinued so you might not be able to get them anymore. (Check my profile for a link to their web page).



As for rotation, there are two things to consider:

1) The hot brake dust does a number on the inside of the front wheels.

2) The vendors only polish one side of the wheel.



You can rotate but they will look like crud after they go around. Personally, I'm looking forward to buying wheels less than 6 at a time.

Also, be sure the width and offset are correct. Otherwise you might have problems with tire clearance.

Have you looked at the 19. 5 steel wheels with the Stainless steel simulators? That is the way I would go. Less $$$ and no rotation problems.

Got the Eagles on Big Green- the spoke style that ToolMan posted. Mail order from a Florida outfit called BAGE CO- less than $800 with shipping. I spoke with the Eagle factory rep- they do not advise heavy duty hauling of loads in the bed and than bouncing around off-road- there have been cracks reported. I do not haul rocks/bricks etc so they have been great and look good. everything else is a lot more- the really fancy ones can be a couple or three thousand.

Concept Neeper makes a 6500 dollar set I just can't fathom a bling factor for the same stock size. Sure 22" in the concept series maybee. but allmost 7K EEEEK

I checked those out and the other high end ones- including a set from Boyd Coddington- those are for the slammed road scraping duallys that are good for nothing and rather oogly- Alcoa or Eagle for most of us not on the show circuit

dkevdog--I have the Alcoa's and like them. They were about the same cost as other rims--well a few bucks more --but the load ratings are higher on the Alcoa's. Purchased mine at Americas's Tires. Also went to the next size up on tire size (Michelin's). Looks better & rides better. I don't know tire size off hand but I will check it out if you wish.
