Anyboby know if a dually wheel off of an '02' will fit on a '99'?

The '02' wheels have more off set so that '235' tires wont rub together. I know the bolt pattern is the same but I don't know if the wheel wil fit over the brake drum on my '99. Thanks, Rick

I was sure hoping some one could help me so I didn't go buy wheels then find out they won't fit over the brake drums because of the more offset they have. I asked 3 different tire shops & they didn'y know. THANKS,Rick

Most likely...

they will fit... but I have not tried it. The extra offset will push the inner tire further in and the outter tire further out. The outter tire will probably be out past the fender slightly adding to paint chipping.

I 'm only going to put them on the inside rear because I have aluminum wheels on the outside. Just want to try & keep the rear tires from rubbing together when I have my camper loaded. It creates a lot of extra heat in the tires. Rick

The 01/02 wheels are a differenct offset than the earlier trucks. I know that you can't put the earlier wheels on a later year truck without some modification. Not sure about going the other way. The offset is more than 1/8 inch.

B-4 you go to the trouble of changing wheels, alcoa and i'm sure other mfgrs make spacers to fit between the wheels to get the proper clearance. i just put a set of spacers in my dad's '98, cost about 20 bucks, only thing i didnt like was only 1 thread left showing on the studs. Im going to install longer studs in a few weeks when i do the rear brakes.

Ok for the record the backspace on the older Dodeg is 8. 150" and for the newer ones it's 8. 330", so it is a little more then an 1/8"

Thanks for the spacer idea. Got 4 spacers yesterday from a trailer supply whse. near here that is a dealer for Alcoa. Got 4 (2 for each side)because they are only . 200" thick. Going by the measurements that y-knot posted this should give me . 040" more space between the tires than the "02's have. The 4 spacers only cost me $17. THANKS, Rick

Is there plenty of room left on the hub to support the outside wheel when you add the spacers? I was looking at mine and thought by the time you add the spacer the wheel was going to be out past the part of the hub that centers the wheel? I have not taken the wheel of to see.

stacerbob,

I have aluminum wheels on the outside & they are centered with the lug nuts.

Like mag wheels the lug nits go thru the wheels.

Rick

OK

That makes sense now. Eagle is starting to come out with some hub-centric wheels for duallys now. I am considering them and maybe going back to the 215 size.
