It's an apples and oranges difference between a true "spray on" liner versus a "roll on" but I just have to rant about Duplicolor's new "Armor" roll on kit.

In the past, I've had great success with the "Hurculiner" roll on kit for many different projects and two different truck beds. This stuff is tough and sticks extremely well when the proper amount of prep work has been done to the surface.

A few years back, I tried the Duplicolor spray on bed liner in a can for my rocker panels. I wanted a spray on type Line-X but the cost was astronomical. Well, 60K miles + later, it's still there with ZERO signs of peeling anywhere. So naturally when I found a Duplicolor roll on type kit in a gallon can, I was excited to buy even though it was more than the Hurculiner kit. I have been disappointed and my truck bed looks worse now than before the kt was applied.

The roll on Duplicolor material is extremely inconsistent when applied. Lot's of large blobs despite being properly mixed. The roller brush is corrugated to work with the material but the brush is very rigid. Trying to cover the surface with this rigid brush is like a monkey F'n a football. Apparently, in Duplicolor's engineering office every truck bed is a flat surface without ridges, corners or angles. I ended up making a hardware store run for a texture surface roller brush which help ease the pain of the kit provided brush.

Like I mentioned, I've was completely happy with the results that the Herculiner kit provided but Duplicolor's kit needs some serious work. Please, save a few bucks and buy the Hurculiner kit for your next truck bed or any other projects that you have.

I will continue to buy the Duplicolor bed liner in a aerosol can stuff as this has been tried and proven in my book. My pickup rocker panels prove that and just about every thing I've sprayed this stuff on it.

Just out of curiosity, how much does the aerosol Duplicolor cost? I was thinking of using it, or a similar product on the entrance ramp into my toyhauler, for protection of the ramp and to "rough" up the surface a bit. What do you think? any other suggestions, like maybe the Herculiner roll on kit, which would you prefer?

TIA, Jess

The problem with virtually all DIY bedliners is that they have rubber "crumb" that gives the textured appearance. As you found out, uniform coverage is impossible to attain and the crap flakes off when you drag something across it. The only DIY kit I have come across that does not have any flake or crumb in it is monstaliner.com It is a thick epoxy paint and the texture is achieved through either spraying through a special purpose gun or their custom rollers that are supplied with the kit.

Not very good pics but all I have for now of my bed rails and bottom 4" of the truck MonstaLined

While I have not tried it either, if I needed to roll on a liner, I would use the Mosterliner instead of the others.

The aerosol Duplicolor can is roughly $10 each. I love this stuff and always keep 2-3 cans in stock at all times. I removed the stick em' strips on our toyhauler steps also and used the spray on aerosol instead. Good stuff Jes.

Sounds good, I'll give it a try. It's a standard size ramp, 8' x 8' approx, you believe 3 cans may cover it?

The sandpaper strips "slid" off my ramps and steps, sun was evidently too hot for the glue. Think I'll just pick up a half dozen aerosol cans of the Duplicolor (what color?...) and call it a day.

I guess it depends on how thick you want the surface to be. To be honest, I used (4) cans per side for my rocker panels but I wanted a nice thick layer. I'd spray a can full, then lit it sit for an hour and then empty another can.

Update

I wrote an email to Duplicolor yesterday afternoon explaining my displeasure with the product. To my surprise, I received a response back about midday today that they are refunding my money %100.
