The 12" is a clutch-type diff, so either additive, or LSD compatible fluid. No idea on the temps, but I can say mine was not nasty looking when I changed it at 20K.
Were you towing heavy?
The 12" axle calls for 75W140. The front is still 75W90.Running light duty 75-90 and heavy towing 75-110. I highly recommend AMZ/OIL SevereGear, get rid of the OE JUNK at around 5k. The squeeze bottles are great!View attachment 123646
Thanks. I'm going to start ordering the first oil change supplies here shortly. 75w140 with LSD additive. Amsoil by the way. The last RAM 2016 3.42's rear axle never got over 150 degrees ( after AAM alum cover installed) even towing 18K up hills.
