Dumb Question

Can someone please give me a description on the fuel delivery for CTD. It sounds crazy but start from the tank and work forward. Please give me a detailed description so I can show it to a guy I work with. He does not believe me on how the fuel delivery CTD works. What can I say, but he drives a Ford V10 gasser and thinks it is the best thing in the world.

It goes form the tank to a liht pump, to the fuel filter, to the CPS high pressure injection pump to a common rail which distrubutes the fuel to the 6 injectors. The computer decides when and how long the injectors open. The CP3 keeps the fuel at a continous high pressure and sprays the fuel through the injector nozzle. A portion of the fuel is used to cool the CP3 injection pump, the remainder that is not used to run the motor is fed back to the tank as on a return line.

From the factory service manual:



High-pressure fuel is supplied from the injection pump, through a high-pressure fuel line, through a fuel pressure limiting valve, into a fuel rail, through high-pressure lines, through steel connectors and into the solenoid actuated fuel injector. The ECM actuates the solenoid causing the needle valve to rise and fuel flows through the spray holes in the nozzle tip into the combustion chamber.



Hope that helps. There are a couple of wires from the solenoid to the top of each injector.
