I had one of those that was originally installed on Fed truck, that I bought out of Arizona. It was on a 81 Dodge D250 gasser. There are several annoying issues with it, but the main one was stuff getting hung up on the wheel wells and the back edge of the bed when dumping.

I ended up replacing the bed with a mini truck stakebed, which worked out fairly well ( the chasis was shortbed), but the dump unit is of such light duty that I wouldn't recommend it unless you're plans are for real light work dumping.

I donated the truck to charity when it started to die, and the dump wasn't worth salvage, unless you were planning to use it in Mexico. I picked up an F250 with a 460 in it (for free), and put a 3 ton unit on it (overkill), with a 9 foot stake bed. I run it around with some nice 18" sides I built, when I'm not using the 42" stakes. The low sides are good for visability and moving sand or soil. I'm looking for a good used CTD to swap it over, and I'd like it to be a one ton SRW, but I'd take the dually if it came along.

I've had a utility truck around for the last 13-14 years, and I started out with what you're thinking of. I wouldn't be without it. With the stakes on the back, it doubles as a rack for picking up anything long (16-18' moulding & lumber). With the open area, there's nothing I can't move or transport, it secures well, & I'm not worried about any damage to the truck.

Once you have a dump, you wouldn't be without it, but I'll tell you from experience, that what you're looking at will just give you an itch to do it right, and the dump unit will be too light weight for any other application.
